Not at all. I had mine for 2 years/40K miles. The car was driven hard from day one and never put a foot wrong. It really was a jack of all trades. I have to say I miss it.

We put an Audi A6 2.0tdi Avant in its place and its not a patch on the X3. The only good thing that I can say about the Audi is that its cheap to run, its making 38mpg to the X3's 34MPG.

X3 all the way for me. I'll have another once I get shot of the audi in a year and a half.

I have driven a 6sp manual SE spec andf liked it.
Once it is up and running and has decent pace and certainly handles well. A bit firm but only a problem for the rear passengers!

I would prefer mine in auto though and with a bigger engine because I found it a little laggy and a bit slow off the mark until the turbo spools up. Maybe an auto would smooth this out a bit. I only drove it for a few hundred miles and I hadn't driven a diesel for a very long time before this so it may have been my 'style' that was a bit wrong.

I think an auto coupled with the 3.0d or better yet the 3.0twin turbo diesel as per the 3.0sd/535d/335d would be a fantastic drive.

It feels very wieldy and not very big at all. The driving position is quite low and is a good place to once inside.

No experience of towing but it felt composed at speed with 5 passengers and a boot full of luggage.
