Thinking of getting a 3dr 120d M Sport as a temporary car. List is £23,395 plus I will add options to bring the list up to £26.5k. I will get this from Drive The Deal as they offer attractive discounts.

I haven't looked at DtD for this particular model yet, but assume discount will be 10-15%, so say I will be getting a car with a £26.5k list for £23k. How much will I lose in 6 months for a straight sale to a franchised dealer?

you'd be barking mad to buy a brand new car and sell it after 6 months.
Discount or not you'll get a right fisting selling it back.
Why not buy used, or infact just rent ??!
Take a look at BCA- they're auctioning off BMWs from the main dealer over the next few weeks. That'll give you a clue as to what the trade value of a 6month old one will be.

I think the 120d is better on residuals than my 130, but I paid 24k for a 6 month old ex-demo 130i M Sport. It has typically demo-spec options, fortunately including the ones I'd have put on a brand new car; list was a tad over 33k! I know options depreciate faster than the base car, but even so, that's scary depreciation.

If you can find a nearly new one with the right options, then you'll save a boat load of cash.

Try and find a 6 months old ex BMW car, thats what I did...

I paid 18k in Jan this year for a 6 month old 120d M Sport, that probably listed at nearly 25k..

I had heard that BMW dealers are cutting back the discounts at the moment, in fact I heard Dtd had actually stopped listing the 1 series as there was uncertainty over what dealers were going to be able to offer... also IIRC the DtD discount includes a 1k discount for finance, which you wont get if you dont finance it obviously

Ouch, if you can pick one up from a dealer for £18k then they'll only buy at £3k less than that I guess.

Weren't there some revisions made to the car earlier this year.
Is it possible that you got a previous version ?

I got mine in Jan, I dont think the revision was out till june/july, and that didnt really affect the M sport, the revised engines were even later IIRC... I reckon mines probably worth 15k trade now, which after 20,000 miles isnt too bad (i've had much worse !)...

No there are some very cheap pre regs knocking about from BMW, but when there gone there gone.

I can see things tightening up next year and about time too!

Ive just sold my August 06 120d M Spt for £16500 to a trader. The best offer I got from a dealer was £15k.

I paid £19k brand new then so I didnt think I had done too badly after 15 months.
