I LOVE MY 8 SERIES ! cloud9

Anyway, it was just wonderful. Sure, there are faster cars out there, including diesels now (!!!)
erm, I rarely find any!
Having just left a mighty surprised Carrera S wondering what happened on the bypass tonight, there really is very little that, in the real world, can significantly outpace a CSi.

Just got mine back from bodyshop where it's had a full respray (well almost) - Bonnet/wings/doors/rear arches and roof/sunroof. Then every other panel buffed back to factory condition. And debadged cool

The result is staggeringly good, the Cosmos Black paint is so deep and flawless it looks as though you could dip your hand into it. Whilst it wasnt bad before there were a few areas that needed attention. Now it is perfect, just how I wanted it.

Money well spent IMO !

now all I need to do is fit this into it.....

and I'm done.... thumbup

Tony, if I were you I would look into some kind of protection for your new paint, when I had mine painted I looked into Rhino protect (£900 inc vat and fitting) but I thought I wouldn't bother but now I wish I had as there are a couple of small stone chips rage

that is partly true mate, but Tesco paid for a brand new nose cone and csi spoiler... bandit ... all I paid was small excess.

This paint job was to bring the rest of the car upto the same condition as the front bumper (as you do !!) I had a couple of rust bubbles appearing, one on bonnet, and on the sunroof. Bought a new sunroof panel from BMW and things just got out of hand from there on laugh I'm not exaggerating when I say it looks brand spanking new now - not a swirl mark or stone chip present !!!

Photos... hmmm... got a new phone yesterday (LG Viewty) and still working it all out. I've got some and will post asap, however, I am off to the pub now to celebrate finishing work for the year drink

Out of interest, what has happened to the E31 site? Is it terminal?

Anyway, nice to see the 8-series getting a bit more air time smile

Hi chaps

Couple of queries you may be able to assist with.

  • faint vibration/rumble when cold, around 2,000rpm, disapears when warm. does not affect the drive at all. Parksie, you too seem to suffer this malade, has anyone else noticed this?
  • some condensation inside drivers clear side lense in bumper, anyone else have this/seen this? no obvious fixings?
  • i have sadly damaged the low front splitter on a high kerb. bastard. My S4 was not so low!! any known mods to avoid such damage to the fragile fiberglass section?
  • display on trip computer not perfect, i bought one off ebay from a 98 3 series in the hope it wud work, it fits but connector is different. any ideas??
Any recomendations for a decent value sports exhaust?

Other than that, i cleaned it today and went for a blast, which was superb!! the sport mode in manual selection makes a clear difference. jsut wish it had more V8 bellow.

I think i might be the youngest 8 series owner in the country....24??!! (23 actually when purchased!!) my freinds at uni think im bonkers!!

Strangely, the 850's are prone to this as well. Check the engine mounts. Theyre prone to going hard and collapsing. Easy ehough to replace.

  • some condensation inside drivers clear side lense in bumper, anyone else have this/seen this? no obvious fixings?
They can leak where the lens meets the plastic back. Careful application of silicone sealer all round the join will solve the problem. Theyre held in with two screws hidden behind the little grill just beside it. The grill pulls out.

Sorry to hear that. You just have to get used to it!

  • display on trip computer not perfect, i bought one off ebay from a 98 3 series in the hope it wud work, it fits but connector is different. any ideas??
It'll never fit! The display is very prone to pixel failure. It is caused by a poor connection between the display and the printed circuit board. I have successfully repaired them in the past but can't give any assurance on how long the repair will last. There is also a place in Germany that repairs them with some success - quite expensive though!

Any recomendations for a decent value sports exhaust?

Eissman sports exhausts have an excellent reputation and sound fairly mean.
Personally, I'd whip out the centre resonators and see if you like the sound.

haha yes i guess so.

iv wanted one since i was about 15, and worked up towards one. i went thru the Porsche hoops (944 S2) Audi S4, MG BGT V8 3.9 efi (not the usual factory turd) Merc C280 Sport to get here, buying right and selling at a profit to build up to my 840 Ci Sport.

be good to learn abit about them thru the forum and the newly reborn Clube31.

hope to meet some of you at some point at gatherings, pistonfests etc
