Hello to everybody in this fantastic community and greetings from Bulgaria! Some beautiful machines in the thread!
My father's Schwartz Black BMWs
One of the last saloon E39s - built in January 2003, for me this is the best BMW model ever. Bought in 2005 at 8,000kms from BMW Frankfurt AUC and sold at 102,000kms in 2015 (for very strong money, but it took us close to an year to find the right buyer), it was an absolute joy to drive this car and it's all about driving it. A truly great car. Apart from a pack of coils and a thermostat (known issues), nothing went wrong. I had her for a couple of months before she was sold and I miss her so much, that I'm actually in the market for my first car and it's gonna be an E39 523i/528i.
My father replaced the 525i with a 2011 X3 35i M-sport. Bought at 22,000kms in April 2014 from BMW Munich AUC for a bit more than half of the original price, there are only a couple of options missing - the HK sound system, the towbar, rear-window sunblinds and electric thigh support. We struck such a good deal, the dealer said he could've sold it for more in the showroom hahah, since we got it without seeing it.
I was driving another car in front of the X3 recently and it looks so menacing in the rear-view mirror.
The other thing it does incredibly well is covering ground. Ours is used mainly outside town. It needs around 13l/100km at a very spirited pace (70mph-120mph). Elasticity is great, she starts feeling heavy at 200 km/h, but there is no point going faster than that ever. 6 secs to 100 km/h so only Xdrive 3-series need apply, Rover P6B. Bad points: ours got recalled for an under-warranty VANOS fix, not made as well as the E39 we had, kind of electronic - the steering and the transmission, but ultimately those make it so fast. It is not a classic BMW, but a modern BMW - behind the wheel it inspires confidence and you feel happy pushing it, though obviously not a car to grab by the scruff. But to bully inferior traffic - it's ace. Jk . All in all - since it makes the right sounds , probably the best car ever if you prefer BMWs, bar the X5, which has 7 seats and the M50d engine, but is bigger.
Apologies for the long post - it is one of my first, I just love BMWs and PH.
Cheers!

Replacement for my X3, guess what.....
Carbon Black, with a couple of goodies. Wasn't sure about the wheels but they're growing on me.

Will take some more at the weekend.

The E39 isn't completely and utterly pointless, it's a great all-rounder which anyone sensible could see is a great car, one of the greatest BMWs ever made. The X3 is completely and utterly pointless, hideous, vulgar, mediocre at best at everything...
In X3's defense, and I have done a couple of thousand miles in it, it is an insanely capable car. It plays two games extremely well - the size game and the A-to-B game. In my eyes the car is not that big at all, but granted it's not a small car in the same way neither an F30/31 3 series or an E39 are. 5 adults and a bootful of stuff - no problem. Three 6-foot adults fit in the back seats fine, of course it's not an S-class. We did a 2000 mile round ski trip, 4 up, boot was full, 2 snowboards in the Thule and the car was like "What? Something going on?" and we all know how BMWs make you drive . An F31 can't be as good space-wise - the F25 sits upper in the BMW ladder. The other thing it does incredibly well is covering ground.
