Show Me Your BMW!!!!!!!!!
Discussion
Hi there,
I was wondering if some one can help me. I have a BMW 116d 2013 plate number. My car broke down few days back. I was driving back home when the car suddenly stopped and I was unable to restart the car. Later I took the car to RAC approved garage and they informed me that they needed to strip the engine to know what exactly has happened to the Car.
Inspection findings:
On arrival at the above premises, I was escorted to the vehicle, which was situated in the workshop on the ramp. A visual inspection took place and the above vehicle details were confirmed.
The mileage was taken from the vehicle's job card.
I went on to carry out my inspection and found the following:
1. The camshaft timing chain sprocket had broken up, unusual wear marks are present on the sprocket teeth. 2. The camshaft had scoring present close to the camshaft pulley.
3. The upper timing chain had not broken, but did have a couple of areas of damage/wear present.
4. The upper timing chain guide had broken up and was present inside the sump.
5. The high pressure fuel pump sprocket had worn teeth present.
6. The engine end case had damage present from the timing chain. 7. All piston heads had valve witness marks present.
At the end the RAC informed that it’s wear and tear that caused it. It’s a 2014 car with a total mileage of 58000 done before this happened. I also serviced the car in February and they said everything was ok.
I don’t know much about cars, can some one help me here or give me advise.
I have RAC warranty but the warranty company said that this is wear and tear so they are not liable. BmW don’t think it’s wear and tear. How do I proceed

Traded the f11 in for a G30
They are lovely looking motors. I had one for a courtesy car whilst my E91 had its recalls done last summer, same colour and spec as yours. They are huge on the inside!! Felt a little soulless for me though, and I could not wrap my head around how big the damn key was....RoverP6B said:
G30 is far from pretty but it's still the best-looking of the current pack of BMWs by some distance.
I quite like the 8 series and the i8 looks ok.The rest are too challenging for me. But then so are all Mercedes and Audi are not much better. Most Jags are bland and Lexus are interesting, but not pretty. Guilia may be the ONLY really good looking saloon on the market.
Having said that, the G30 isn't a bad looking thing and is wonderful inside. The G31 I had for a while felt lovely to waft in.
