Ah yes, the 6GC, another of BMW's brilliant ideas. "Hey guys, why don't we make a long-wheelbase four-door saloon version of the short-wheelbase two-door coupé version of our mid-size four-door saloon?". Not a bad-looking thing by F-number BMW standards, and more elegant than the F10, but I always struggled to understand the point of having it AND the 5er... it would appear that the market largely agreed. At least they didn't make a 6er Touring to cannibalise F11 sales!RoverP6B said:

Well the GC had one main point- a useable rear cabin. I never intended to buy one - but at the time of looking at a 530/530D i got that 640D for about 5k less so was a good deal. Happened to be sitting next to the car i went to look at. Good car, but boring. Already driving the 540i more.
So, after 10 years of ownership, I finally parted ways with my beloved E91 335i after barely using it throughout lockdown.
Like everyone on PH I spent most of lockdown browsing classifieds thinking about the ideal 2 car fleet to cover off a fun car for me, and a good family car for holidays, IKEA runs etc. We had an XC60 on PCH ticking off the family duties, which left a small budget for a fun car.
Then - lightbulb moment. What if we went down to one car? What could tick all the boxes, if we merged both budgets together?
M340i Touring, fully specced with those bits I missed from the old E91 (pan roof, tow bar). All set for another 10 years of ownership... As our last ICE car most likely.
Feels like both a new car and an old friend

Here's a couple of snaps of my E39 540i Touring that I've owned for about a year and a half. Still got a long way to go to get to where I want her, but she's a rolling project. Very much a love/hate relationship..
I have a B10 V8 Touring and that is also a love/hate relationship; love the quality of the cabin and the Alpina engine, gearbox and suspension - hate the rust and flimsy cooling system.McGee_22 said:

Agreed on that one. I've renewed the majority of the cooling system and replaced the stock thermostat with a lower temperature one from an E38 740d. The coolant temperature now stays in the mid 90's so should hopefully help prolong the life of things. Corrosion can be a pain, although thankfully the car is largely rust free. I did have the jacking points and sills repaired last year though as there was rust in the standard places. Edited by Priceyx on Monday 24th May 21:59
