What's happened to that E65 rear axle?

Yes, the LCI E65/66 has key barrels both in the driver's door and bootlid (above the registration plate). Mine has soft close doors and boot, and double-glazed windows (so breaking one would be very difficult and replacing it a PITA). I'm going to call out Green Flag next week, try to get a charger onto the starter or alternator.

Picked up a X6 40d today - first BMW for a few years and been impressed with the quality so far. Needs new front tyres which as i'm finding, are quite expensive when they get to 20"

Needs a really good polish as the previous owner used the local hand wash places and there are lots of buttons and features to get used to

At the risk of regaining my reputation in this thread for being an arsey git, what is the point of the X6? Is there anything it does better than an X5? It always struck me as a spectacularly pointless thing - like an X5, only with less headroom and boot space. Stylish it ain't... although BMW have made far worse carbuncles since.

why does it need a point?

I didn't go looking for one, but the deal was too good too pass and its so much better than the Tiguan it replaces. We don't need to haul a load of family stuff around so don't have the need for the extra boot height of an X5.

I like them because you don't see that many on the road. its not just another xxx or yyy that you see all over the place.

Like my old E63 - i didn't really like them when they came out but think they have got better with age - but then thats my taste - just as well we all don't like the same thing

Unfortunately on an N62 powered E65 with adaptive drive neither of those are an uncommon sight. hehe
I hope so for me personally! I did everything that would need them to come out for, so fingers crossed.

A dynamic drive hose burst on the flexy bit through corrosion (steel wires inside), and the only way to remove them from the anti roll bar is to drop it down. You can see the 4 new pipes. My bar looked like it had washed up on a beach so I got a mint low mile one from Texas, and new bushes, mounts, links. Also subframe bushes and their foam damper rings, eccentric bolts and the control arms.

Double glazing, fancy. Whatever you do though, do not break the rear glass. It gets behind the rear comfort seats, insulation etc, I've got mine out to get lumbar working on both and found like a takeaway container's worth of broken glass behind there, spent the last week on and off picking it all out. Mine must have been rear window though.

Starter or alternator, that's genius. I reckon alternator is the easier way as after taking undertray off you can just reach up to it, see big gaping hole on the right. The V12 is the same.

Close up of the hoses, there's 4 sections here that join to the hard lines running to the valve block

I have a strange soft spot for the X6. I have no idea why, but they do always look better in the metal, they have good presence without the blocky look of the X5.

I'd probably be thinking about silver wheels on that one though. You could probably buy a set of tidy silver 19s for the difference that inch makes in the tyre prices.

I agree, black makes the wheels look small so am on the hunt for some reasonably priced replacements. I know most prefer the bigger wheels, but i'm thinking 19's would give a slightly more comfortable ride

A couple of pics of my 430i in Estoril Blue. Really enjoying this car having moved from my E89 Z4 in December. A few personal touches made, notably replacing the single sided exhaust with the dual exit backbox from a 440i. Lovely improvement in tone and burble too which was a bonus.

Very nice, especially the cognac interior. I wish I had it in mine, but I console myself with the fact that at least it's not the usual black laugh

Ah yes, the 6GC, another of BMW's brilliant ideas. "Hey guys, why don't we make a long-wheelbase four-door saloon version of the short-wheelbase two-door coupé version of our mid-size four-door saloon?". Not a bad-looking thing by F-number BMW standards, and more elegant than the F10, but I always struggled to understand the point of having it AND the 5er... it would appear that the market largely agreed. At least they didn't make a 6er Touring to cannibalise F11 sales!

Well the GC had one main point- a useable rear cabin. I never intended to buy one - but at the time of looking at a 530/530D i got that 640D for about 5k less so was a good deal. Happened to be sitting next to the car i went to look at.
Good car, but boring. Already driving the 540i more.

Crossed over from owning 3 Merc CLS'
The C257 is non-aesthetically pleasing, and MB finance not attractive anymore.
It drives nicely I must say smile

Following ownership of an F30 328i and an F25 X3 30d I picked this up yesterday.. it’s a 2016 F15 X5 40d M Sport. Enjoyed a 160 mile drive home from Stratstone BMW in Chesterfield. Comfortable wafting and a good pull when needed

So, after 10 years of ownership, I finally parted ways with my beloved E91 335i after barely using it throughout lockdown.

Like everyone on PH I spent most of lockdown browsing classifieds thinking about the ideal 2 car fleet to cover off a fun car for me, and a good family car for holidays, IKEA runs etc. We had an XC60 on PCH ticking off the family duties, which left a small budget for a fun car.

Then - lightbulb moment. What if we went down to one car? What could tick all the boxes, if we merged both budgets together?

M340i Touring, fully specced with those bits I missed from the old E91 (pan roof, tow bar). All set for another 10 years of ownership... As our last ICE car most likely.

Feels like both a new car and an old friend smile
