Hi all,

I'm new to BMW ownership, just picked up a e39 540i yesterday.

It's in perfect condition apart from the wood trim, which is mismatched. Anywhere I can pick up a trim kit?

And where do people go for BMW bits? I did a google search but it just turned up a mine field of dropdown bars and required email addresses.

See if you can get the silver trim, it looks much better than the wood.

Is the trim easy to change? I've got wood trim which is ok, but a bit "old" for me.

I just looked at the 'Wreck Archive' section of that website and found it somewhat unsettling...

Just checked it out and I see what you mean. I think a few of them could've involved fatalities, particularly that last compact.

There was one on there before that was almost in two, just held together with a couple of inches of steel - and they said the bloke walked away.

I thought that cars involved in fatalities where always crushed, not sold for scrap.

I think it's category A, they say they only deal with B+. I may be wrong - which would be a little unsettling.

Every single one of us should look at some of those wrecks and remember before anybody tries to do something heroic or clever, it does make you think.

I had my nasty wood trim painted, it made the car look much newer and was considerably cheaper than new trims. ill post pics if i can find em.

Please do! I've been toying with the idea of replacing the wood trim in mine for a while.

appologies, cant find any, i too toyed with the idea for months then decided to pop to halfords for a tin of "Rover storm grey" and clear laquer. Four coats of laquer after they were amazing!

Probably not a bad idea, because the ally trim on my old e46 328 got marked very easily (fingerprints) and now I have two kids that will make the probem even worse!
