Might need a 1 series forum for this one but I will give it a go
I've just aquired a 1 series coupe and specified the Pro radio upgrade and the USB port for the Ipod.
When I plug the Ipod in and select it from the list I seem to get very little functionality, ie it will only play in random mode and skip forwards and backwards through the tracks. I can't access the IPOD when it's plugged in and I can't find a menu which allows me to select an album or artist etc. I thought it might just play in the last mode the Pod was set too, but thats not the case either, it's just random full stop!.

Anybody help??

PS the cars great thoughwink

Have you got the proper BMW iPod cable? A normal iPod cable doesn't work, assuming it's the same as the 3 series.

There's a cable which is part number B61.12.0.440.812 which has an iPod connector and 3.5m jack on one end, and USB on the other. Your local dealer's parts dept will be able to confirm if it's the same cable you need for your car, but it probably is. It's £39.95 which is a lot for a cable but the integration works a treat.

Thanks Steve, I will get on the the dealers about it. I notice in the brochure it actually states the Ipod interface option includes a cable so in theory I should be able to get one for nothing. They owe me a favour anyway it's got to go back after three days!. There's a paint fault on the door.frown

Sounds like they will have to give you the cable anyway under the circumstances. Mine did come with a cable, but it was just a USB to USB cable. In the manual it implies you need to buy the iPod specific cable. Anyway give them hell and they will probably oblige smile

Well I've got the cable and have managed to get some more functionality, but the buttons don't seem top do what the labels say.
If I press the Artist button I would expect to be able to select by Artist, but in fact it goes to select by track. Am I supposed to be able to 'train' the buttons or something?.
Why isn't this in the manual???

While on this topic, has anyone had the Dension iPod dock installed? I'm thinking of getting one for my E46 with the Business stereo and I'm keen to know 1: Whether it displays track names and 2: If I'll be able to control it with my steering wheel controls?

I'm thinking of getting one too (either the Dension Gateway or the Dice Silverline).

To answer your question - yes to both. Go here for more info:

Finaly sorted mine out, it's all to do with the right hand button. Once you have pushed the relevent button to select Artist, Album or track ettc, the right button needs to be twisted to bring up the choices, pushing it flicks it on to the next folder. My fault hadn't tried that one!
