Has anyone ordered an X6?
Discussion
There seems very little comment about the X6 on this forum.
I am quite taken with the car and having seen the full brochure today, I think an X6 35d might just be a good replacement for the 530d.
Does the general lack of interest indicate that depreciation will be more "6 Series" than "X5"?

I saw one at the Geneva show and it was HUGE. Personally from the reviews i bet its a cracking motor to own and would imagine depreciation would be similar to most new BMW's when bought new ( not very good then ).
Personally i think the market is going right off large vehicles at present so it could be worse than normal but its a bit early to tell.

Surely a 535d is a cheaper, faster better replacement for a 530d.
I would totally agree - unless you have a burning urge to drive a jeep and blow a fortune on fuel. The problem i have with an x6 is that its basically a reshelled x5 - only much less practical. Look at all the options / colours / interior on bmw's website and everythings the same.
Expect to lose £25K in three years - ie, pretty much inline with the x5
I'm pretty certain the X6 will depreciate much faster than an X5 simply due to the fact that it is quite impractical.
Anyone who wants a real 4x4 will go for the X5 anyday - it's pretty much the same story as the M5 / M6 or 5 vs 6 series...the 5's hold on to value's much better than the 6's.

I think long term you're right, though taking it from the starting point of now, there will be a lot of 2007/08 e70 x5s around, but very few x6s, which should help their cause. Rarity value in a BMW always seems to command a premium.Anyone who wants a real 4x4 will go for the X5 anyday - it's pretty much the same story as the M5 / M6 or 5 vs 6 series...the 5's hold on to value's much better than the 6's.

Like any other vehicle it will settle around its market value in the used car market based on supply and demand. Supply may be small as its a new model, but demand is an unknown at this point, and could turn out to be smaller, in which case it would depreciate heavily.steve-p said:

Awful things.
Thanks for the interesting comments.
I think demand will be lower for the X6 as opposed to the X5. I am being offered 2 month delivery on an X6 compared to say 1 year (I am guessing based on launch time deliveries) on the X5.
Why not go with the 535d? I just fancy something a bit different having had two 5 series for my last two cars and also another 5 series in the early 90's. I do take the point that the 535d is a very good car as well as cheaper, better handling and faster than the X6 - just not really different enough to my current 530d!
There is another factor. I have ordered a Nissan GTR which will not arrive until late 2009 at the earliest. My plan is to run the X6 until the GTR arrives, then give the X6 to my wife (who currently has an X-Trail) and I will then run the GTR. I think the GTR and X6 would make a good pair of family cars for daily use.
Perhaps an X5 would be more practical, slightly cheaper, lose slightly less money in depreciation and is considered better looking by most people. However, the X6 does appeal just beacuse it is a little bit different - not universally liked, but it looks good to me!

Got an invite to the launch evening at Chandlers Angmering..............
Dont know if I'll go or not.
Hybrid will be interesting and better MPG than my V8 X5
House sold so could afford one too but it makes sense to keep hold of money to be in stringest postion to movve on proerty wwhen market has adjusted.
London GT3 - X6 will be far superior on raod to the X Trail albeit my drivers choice would be the GTR- excellent choices both IMO depite the odd looks of the X6.
Donut- Glad you are happy.........let us know your first impressions please
