A friend of mine wants to sell her car she has had it from new and its been maintained by BMW dealers up until its most recent service

Its got 69,000 miles

Its a auto with carbon effect trim alacantra/cloth seats

It has a few options like rear parking sensors and a harmon kardon system

Its a bit tatty ie kerbed wheels and envy scratch down one side

But first off what exactly is it and second whats it worth private sale as she has a company car now???

Says 318ci on the boot

AIUI it's a 318 Ci Sport.

They started calling them M-Sports in 2006 or 2007, IIRC. My wife's 320 Cd is a 'Sport' despite being absolutely covered in M logos (all four wheels, steering wheel, gear knob, kick plates..)

It is a 318ci sport.
I'd say in great condition £9k private
Problem with being a bit tatty is there are lots available, I'd ask £7900.

wow my glasses guide bit of of date (sept 07) but reckons £13800 trade less the mileage £1750 so i was thinking about £12000 so adding a bit for the extras

She will be devastated at £7900

Have a shufty at the prices they're up for on Autotrader. £10-11k seems more like it.

It is also a 318 that is in your words "tatty". Private buyers tend not to buy cars with scratches down the side!!

I'd have thought this is more like it looking at Autotrader's website.

Curbed wheels and a scratch could make the car look unloved (even though it may well have been otherwise well maintained and cherished).

Perhaps consider having the wheels refurbed £200ish and the scratch seen to by chips away £100.

The tatty car after the above and a nice valet looks like a cherished minter.

Why do you sell your cars for less than Glass's trade book? Is there something wrong with them?

Garages round here are full of high capacity engines and 4x4's at the moment they just arent moving.

Come and look at it and find one fault. Only just been serviced by BMW and good spec. Xenons, cd changer, spoiler. Wheels have just been refurbed. New MOT.
I buy our cars at a good price and sell at a good price.

Look, you asked for an opinion and I gave you one. If you don't want peoples opinions, don't ask!

Might be worth hanging on to for a few months. I predict a resurgence in the prices of reasonably economical petrol-engined cars due to the ludicrous price of diesel these days.

Personally I'd spend some money on sorting out the tatty bits before selling.

Wouldn't you rather buy your cars at a good price and sell at a better price? You can't value someone elses car based on your business model of selling cars at trade money. If your car is immaculate then whoever buys it will get a very, very good deal. Which is great but not relevant to the value of the OP's car.

no, opinions are welcomed but i'm not forced to agree with or accept all advice the main thing was i wasnt sure of what model it was , that confirmed i can use my glasses guide to find out what the trade price was back in Sept and adjust for mileage , condition and spec.

It will be priced to sell and if someone is willing to buy an honest car in need of a little TLC they will get a bargain

Its just had a service and its a usable car and while the wheels need a refurb most of the other signs of wear and tear are reflective with the mileage so i cant see many other cars being that much different, although its been privatly owned its much like any other fleet car on the market

September was 9 months ago!!!
The market is massively different but go for it at £10-£11k, you never know but I did actually say £9k in good conditon. £7900 was as stated earlier in thread by other people, a tatty car looks uncared for and will attract a substantially lower price but what do I know??

Let me explain again, I gave MY opinion, if yours is different, so be it. An opinion can't be wrong ( check dictionary ) His friends car doesn't even have leather, car is tatty and will look uncared for. You give him £11k for it. Oh and just because they are for sale at £10-11k does that mean they sell for that? If so, I've got a P reg Vectra for £5k, want it???

Well i know she paid over £28k for it new so its must have a few more extras than just the Harmon Kardon system and parking sensors so i'll find out what else

Probably offer it at £9500 and see how things go
