Is it possible to close the roof of a Z4 using the key remote, without putting it in the lock?

No.

You can open it off the remote but not shut it.

Door lock is the only other way to close it.

How do you open it from the remote? Is that a standard function?

It depends on the build year. Mine's 2004/04 and doesn't do it, but I think some pre-facelift cars do.

Same with all BMW/MINI's with elsectuirc windows. hold the unlock key and the windows wind down. lock it & hold they go up. All convertibles roof down but not up.

You are right. I believe it is on 04 BUILT cars onwards.

The reason you cant close it via the remote is due to no antitrap facility....Just thought id add that in

Apparently you can get the remote up enabled if you can find a friendly independant with the correct hardware and software. BMW dealers won't/can't do it.

Alternatively there are aftermarket modules you can buy which allow you to do it remotely.

The Reinhold module will let you open & close from the key - and can enable one-touch opening & closing on the buttons.

04/04 car onwards should open the roof from the key, but for some reason mine won't (doesn't appear as a programmable option).

Maybe yours was not an 04 BUILD. Could have been built in 03 and sat around.

No, mine was 09/04 build - I've got the car info from the BMW system.

You need to unlock a locked car with the remote and hold the button down it will take a few seconds to start, can't see why yours won't work confused

It does sound strange, maybe the key has lost it's programing memory, have you tried the spare?

Actually, thinking about it, I haven't even tried it - I just took the dealers word for it that it won't work. I'll try it later.
