AUC cars about £23k.

Private/small dealer about £19k.

I'd be very tempted by a 645 at the levels they're reaching these days... if it weren't for the sneaking suspicion that they're going to be hit hard by VED if they aren't already.

Yea that 200 quid a year is such a big deal when running a 4.4 litre Coupe.

Well, it looks like they've taken another hit! Now several on the official BMW site around the £21k mark and even a couple at £19950. Awesome value!

why has the crapstorm fallen on this bm and all the other big engined bm seemed to have the usual depreciation? is it just a big heavy executive car that is boring to drive?

I would hardly say that the others have been unscathed, a look at M5 and big engined 7's might change your view.

£200 a year now, but how much more in the future when the 'stealth increases' have filtered through? As I only do 3,000 miles a year and the 645 has a massive service interval I'd only really need to have an oil change and a 'duty of care inspection' done once a year. The fact that it's a 4.4 litre car wouldn't really be of any great consequence. The VED could end up being quite a big deal though, if the rises earmarked for all '1 March 2001 and onward' cars materialise as planned... though it's not so much the cost itself that I have an issue with as the fact that I find giving HM Treasury so much money for doing absolutely bugger-all so distasteful. I'd rather buy something older and pay less for VED but more for maintenance and at least know that the person getting my hard-earned cash had rolled their shirt-sleeves up and done something to deserve it.

yeah, it's not just the 6 series that has had the hammer, it's most cars. It's just for some reason there are a couple of threads on it on PH. That's that. Look at most 7-series that drive by. 730d. When you spot a 745/750/760 then it's an odd day. 545/550 (very very rare is the 550) etc...These prices have dropped. I mean people are banging on about E92 M3's that aren't selling.....

I haven't checked this, but I'd hazard a guess that over at Audi, cars like the standard S4 and S6 will have taken a bath too. Same with Mercedes. The bigger petrol engine models (outside of the SL and CL) will also be taking a hammering.

It's more prevalent than just round the 6.

But paying more for maintenance means you pay more VAT so you end up giving tax pounds in another way

Just seen this ad.
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/620803.htm
Sod the 630,645,650 i'm going to wait for a M6 biggrin
In a few years when i trade in the 330 cab i think that the M6 Cab will easily be in my reach.

Edit to add this ad below
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/652715.htm
At first i thought it was a 650/645 done up to look like a M6, but this is a real M6.
Bloody hell these cars were cira £80K when they were first sold, even more with the options. Now, after two years, it's less than half.
Could we see £20K M6 in two years???

As much as the potential VED issue p1sses me off, you need to consider that the £200 difference is less than one months depreciation on the car.

One poster said 23k to 10k in three years is acceptable loss = £361 a month. I generally go on 50% loss in three years on pretty much any car, which is still £277 a month.

True. I've got a 650 cab and road tax is the least of my worries. This thing does about 16mpg around town and the tyres cost a fortune. Depreciation is also massive, but I think we're going to hang on to this one for a while.

Was looking at CLS500's eight weeks ago, cheapest was 26k at main dealer, today cheapest (same age etc) is 21k. £5000 loss in 8 weeks! Funny part is, I bid a price on a 06 car and in the end the dealer just hung up the phone on me. That car is still for sale and now at a price lower that what I offered!

Interesting. I know there must be some dealers on this site (PH) and I hope that I'm not being too general, but some of them have no real clue. Let's say that you're talking to a 26 y.o. old salesman. In the time they've been working all they'll ever have seen is unhindered economic good times. He won't know what a recession is. To be honest, you go into some dealerships and I don't think some of these guys 'get it'. I don't think they realise they have to work a little harder to get the money! Some of it even comes down to their customer service. It's appalling. I walked into a well known dealership in Canary Wharf to ask about what is covered in a service that another rival dealership had alerted me to. To say that I had to do all their thinking for them is an understatement. You'd think that with car sales dropping off they would still be proactive in making sure a customer was being listened to and taken care of. So a chap dropping the phone on you and missing a sale - well, am I surprised?

ps - I mean no offence to anyone who does know what times we are in and is, let's say 26. I'm taling about some of those ignorant young guys we all encounter too often.

Yep, I was looking at V8 S4s in Jan and the cheapest I found was £16.5k with 65k on the clock.
Checking the trader now there's an 82k miler for £10790 and a 64k miler for £12250 eek (over 30 available for less than £18k with under 60k)

Glad I didn't buy one now...
