iPod options for an E90 330

Any idea what's required to connect an iPod to a E90 330i Coupe??

My mate's got one but it only has an aux type jack input - I'm guessing this isn't enough to display the iPod info on the display screen in the middle of the dashboard? Is there a retro fit solution which works, or is it a matter of getting a genuine BMW kit? I have the BMW kit in mine. It has a cable in the Glovebox which charges the IPOD and provides control via the I drive or Radio controls.

Works really well.

I think it cost me £395 including fitting by my main dealer.
