E39 528i overheating - run out of ideas - suggestions needed

I’m sure the problem has been solved during the 8 years since it occurred.

Had same problem my 520 gave it a garage changed thermostat said was fixed two days later ober heated again took it back again said it was fixed over heated, checked cap to expansion tank and soeeone has overtighted cap and sealing rubber was ripped allowing air into top hose new top from bmw £16.00 it hasn't overheating in six months try a new cap
