From what I understand, pretty much everything is assembled in the UK except the the Bonnie and a few other derivative models on it. It makes sense to do this since the technology is pretty standard and assembly is easy. From what I understand, the triples are all made in the UK (not sure where the Rocket is made though, and that is a triple!).

Rocket is UK too. All the engines apart from a few of the classic twins are UK made. Not exactly a bad thing that some of the more basic stuff is done in Thailand though. A good number of the managers over there are from the UK, and there's no reason why quality isn't as good from over there as it is in the UK when it's a UK managed and owned factory.

Yes, nice write up.

I have been round both Triumph factories, Meriden in 1969 and Hinkley in 1999, like chalk and cheese,....John Bloor is a very clever businessman, and a decent guy by all accounts, building his first house when he was twenty.

How do you get to do a factory tour then? Is it a speak to your local dealer job?

The Hinkley one was arranged through a Triumph dealer (at the time) Robinson's of Rochdale. About 15 of us went on a bike run, including a Robinson's director.

At Meriden I went down with a friend to pick a headlamp up for his bike (250 Trophy) (dealers didn't have any in stock) and they very kindly shown us round....Tridents/Bonnevilles galore.....cloud9

Nice write up. Been a fan of the brand for a while. The 675R is gorgeous as is a matte orange Street Triple R as is a black Speed Triple R. Ridden all 3 and enjoyed the hell out of them.

I knew they were doing well, but I didn't realise they were doing *that* well!

And from what I have seen of the quality of the current bikes, things are only set to get better. I'd love a Street Triple R...

Good to see a British motoring brand, still owned by British person, doing so well. What helps is that the bikes are as good or better than the Japanese competition, so you don't just need to be patriotic to buy and own one.

And I don't care whether or not 1/2 of the parts used on the early models were Japanese (mainly Kawasaki), that is why they are so reliable...

I have had a few Speed Triples (900, T509, 955 & 1050) and ended up going back to one of the first Hinckley 900 Speed Triples (1996), it's completely over engineered and heavy because of it, but I love it...it has that elusive thing all petrolheads yearn for...character

Buy another one quick though, they've just started going back up in value as they are on the edge of becoming a desirable classic bike.
