Be aware with that the Daytona EVOs don't have much in the way of toe protection - more of an issue if you ride in traffic.

Hmmm, this is exactly why it's hard to tell what's any good. Perhaps CE marked boots would be worthwhile after all ... ?

I was hoping T-C would be reading this and add his thoughts, as I remember reading about his research into protective gear/the aftermath of crashes/etc.

Think I'll have a nosy round the NEC in November before coming to a decision. It's a lot of dosh to spend, so don't wanna to get it wrong again and be unhappy

Cheers for now

Oh, and I came off in my A*'s a few weeks ago - hardly a scratch on them and my feet/shins/ankles are completely fine.

Imagine if time again - imagine if a car ran over your foot - some boots cope better with this than others. Don't get me wrong, I have a pair of Daytona's, I love the EVOs and I'll probably buy some, it's just I'll be unlikely to wear them riding in London traffic.

Cheers,

Steve

?

Who knows, he seems to have spammed several threads asking the same question

He'd have better luck posting it in the scottish forum.

Edited to say Alpinestars something or others seem okay, apart from being a bit squeaky.

'cause of the toe protection? Hmm, I'll check out the toe protection when nosing round shiny new boots at the NEC.

Edited to say these new Dainese boots look promising. They appear to have the same inner boot as Daytonas, plus a carbon toe:

www.dainese.com/eng/articolo.asp?articolo=1795086&cat=RACING

"Developed ... with the assistance of Dr Costa's Mobile Clinic ... The RACE Version is a faithful reproduction of the boots worn in competition by Valentino Rossi."

Has anybody tried out the old Dainese D-Axial Light boots that these replace?

Haven't tried the Dainese boots yet, but am seriously considering purchasing the Regular Axial Boots. I like the idea of a bit more shin protection on these boots than the Race Axial Boots. From my previous experience with Dainese(jacket and my current set of gloves) they make excellent quality gear that is very comfortable from the first time you put it on.

As others have said I wear moto boots all the time, Alpinestars, and they are great - seem to offer far more protection than 'race' style boots.

What about altberg - www.altberg.co.uk They always geat great reviews and are full leather. I'm considering going and looking at a pair for the round the world trip!

I dobn't think you'll do better, IMHO. I've got a pair, made to measure (no extra cost btw), waterproof lining, wear them all day long at work, and they're like slightly heavy slippers. A mate of mine is an armed response officer, he's got 3 pairs for work, swears by them. They only drawback is the 3 month lead time for MTM.

I have one or two pairs of boots including Daytona Security Evos, AlpineStars SMX Plus and Sidi Vertabrae.

The Daytonas are only worn on track as I don't want to wreck them on my commute, but the protection they offer is second to none. I bought mine direct from Germany and paid £330 for them and they took a week to get to me via Fedex.

I tend to alternate between the Sidi's & Astars depending on weather. I wear the Sidis most of the time because of our cr*p weather, I find them to be quite waterproof even though they are not designed to be. I bought some leather treatment at one of the shows in the past and it helps the boots to be water resistant, the water just beads off.

The Astars I only use in the dry for road riding, and these are very good.

I would say the Sidis and Astars offer similar protection with the Daytona Security Evos being in a class of their own.

I've been wearing the Axial race in boots since last spring, tad expensive but what price safety? Although I see a cheaper replacement version is out this year.Mine are currently back in Italy because I wasn't happy with some wear on the inside of the boots caused by the ankle structure, but other than that they get the thumbs up from me

Thought i would just add.

Been wearing my new-ish Alpine Stars GPS 3 All weather boots, and they are ace.

They keep my feet warm, unlike my old Black Rain EVO boots, and are 100% aterproof. They feel more protective too, and at £100 from J&S, very good value.

Tried them out scrathing today, but little bit cold for knee sliders. I did however get the toe slidders down and they work really well.

Tried the Security EVOs at the Ally Pally show yesterday, price a bit , but a quality product. Looking like my ideal track boot, will just need to get my BKS cut to go over the top of them now.

tried the sport evos, the security evos little brother. I've just got some from motshop.de in germany for about EUR 330. which is about 220 quid. they are almost identical tothe security evos, but a little chunkier. They also have the removable inner boot, with hinged angle protector - as per their big brother...

Thanks for the info! Since you've given 'em the thmbs up, I presume you're happy that the safety matches the price. I saw the replacement version, but didn't realise it was cheaper ... ?

Checked out the Daytona Security Evos. WOW! They look as tough as, well, very tough old boots. The only things against 'em are price (!) and they're not waterproof, although I guess I could use Nikwax or similar. Plus, like most others, you have to wear 'em outside your trousers, which is pants in the rain (if you pardon the expression ).

Current A-stars are long suffering and hanging on in there. Warm in winter, GoreTex doesn't let in a drop, cool in summer ... and falling to bits

Hmmm, it's darn tricky buying expensive bike gear ... although last year's Ride reviews of boots helped a lot.

Daytona do a waterproof evo boot, very similar to the security evo, again not the same level of toe protection as some boots, but they are more of a track/race boot anyway. You've also got Sidi black rain and I think waterproof Alpinestars to choose from. I sent Daytona a question on UK warranty when buying boots from Germany yesterday, we'll see if they come back with anything.

Happy searching,

Steve

Steve,

that'll be the sport evo GTX then!

PS I wouldn't use a security evo everyday, you'll knacker them! FDaytona can rebuilt any part of the boot, or the enitre thing. New 'outer boots' are available with pretty quick delivery from Germany....

tried on the Evo sport GTX's and the Security Evo's at the show

the former are more comfortable but the latter are evidently better protection

with track days looming have ordered the Security Evo's from motshop.de...its a huge saving on UK price, hopefully they will prove reliable to deal with

and I won't be wearing the security evo's on the road, I suspect
