bikes for under a grand!?
Discussion
I bought a mk1 bandit 600-s for £900. Full service history, immaculate condition, only 3 previous owners. Granted the mileage w was a but high at 43000 miles. However it feels tight as a drum now. Only thing that needed work was that the chain and sprockets were a little on the worn side. So bijes for under a grand us doable. You just gotta get your haggle on!
1998 ZX7R, 26k, full arrow exhaust, dynojet, k&n and a load of carbon bits.
I paid £1000.. came with full MOT and Tax. Riding it around for a while before I decided to re-build it a few weeks ago, started to clean it and it got out of control!

I'll just need to keep looking and maybe wait for winter.
it amazes me though how people can ride a bike that's not in good condition.
ok if it was a bandit or something like that to be used as a winter hack fair enough.
but to have a sports bike where the handling is awful and something could go very wrong mechanically at high speed it makes you wonder.
they are ether stupid as fk and careless or shouldn't have bought a sports bike in the first place.

'Cos they is like riding gods innit bro.I've been using my bike to go to work this week (clutch clipping on the Connect, haven't told the boss yet as he's just got over the £1000 repair bill for two injectors and a wheel bearing), seen lots of sportsbikes sat in traffic queues in the town. I just plough to the front with my twin HIDs and yard-wide fairing, frown at the lead driver like I'm unmarked Plod and bimble off into the distance when the lights change

When ive been on my lessons one of the instructors took me to a place near Chester that had a load of older bikes fairly cheap. Think it was called Bretton Motorcycles it was more of a Hells Angels type place but had quite a few sports bikes in.

just seen another exup
£1000 48,000 miles on the clock.
phoned him up, its been on 20 minutes, oh sorry I thought you were dave he is looking to buy the bike as well, told me he was unemployed and how good the bike is cause he spends a lot of time cleaning it and polishing it. this some how adds value to it. even though it's covered in a shopping list of stickers.
tells me the forks were advisory last time for a mist. I assume he meant leaking so need done
a tyre was advisory last time and they are over 4 year old (in my view 4 year old + tyres need replacing, not according to him who told me it goes by miles) told me he could get a set for £70 odd, anyway.
it needs a new front set of discs.
calipers rebuilt
has a months tax and mot
all this before I seen it, so I offered £600 over the phone. he didn't seem to think it was fair. kept saying how good a bike it is and how he gets looks everywhere he goes. it's a beast fast as anything. but he doesn't use it much cause he's unemployed and can't afford the fuel.
no much use to me when it's lying in the sand trap at Taylor's though.
I'm looking at getting a second zx6r as well for £1,100. but the seller wouldn't budge on price. it has no mot and needs new tyres so I offered £900.
he says he'd rather sell it at £1,100 with a fresh mot and new tyres. strange. you think he would have just saved the hassle and cost.

I think they are still out there, was out bid on a 1998 CBR600 on ebay. Had 10 months MOT and 3 months tax, sensible milage, decent bodywork aside from 2 slight knocks on one side. Went for £770.
Managed to buy a 1997 ZXR6, 40,000 miles today. Already in 'track' guise, so no prep needed. Cost me £700.

Bought my first bike a GPZ 500, N reg with 25k on the clock, bought for £750 with 10 months MOT and full service history, 2 advisories on the last MOT dealt with before I bought it.
Paid £750 for it. Had to replace the CDI and an ignition coil so that was £90 in parts. Still running now and does 60 MPG, tyres still have masses of tread and the only issue is a misfire when being ridden in heavy rain. Apparently a common fault with twin cylinder bikes of that vintage. All in all I'm fairly happy with it.

Not yet, picking this one up tomorrow. Looks okay from pictures, and for £700 there is enough money for new sprockets, chain etc if needed. The bike is described as 'good mechanical condition' and so if it isnt then I can walk away.
hope all goes well but if it's anything like my last half a dozen or so experiences you will be walking moanthebairns said:

Tbh, for £700 Im not expecting anything much. It'll be used for 2 or 3 trackdays a year, so as long as its safe and not going to fall apart then what more can you ask? Condi said:

that's exactly my remit. I've not cared if it's been dropped or looks fked as long as it can stand the track.
each one would be dead after 10 minutes or I would unless I spent hundreds. seriously.
I was looking at a 91 cbr f that had been rebuilt completely for £600.
rebuilt completely meant painted matt black. mind you I've yet to see it so it might be ok
