wahoo passed my cbt now what
Discussion
Passed my CBT last week, first time on a bike on the road awesome fun, i think i'm hooked. But I'm not sure what to do next.
I could do a direct access being 25 and was told I would probably pass in 3 days if I was particularly jammy or four to be sure. The thing is, would I be better of buying a 125 to get plenty of real road experience before trying my full test as I find it hard to believe that in four days I could pass, and go buy a bike with enough power to weight to leave any car standing. If so whats the fastest 125 (no two strokers please as I cant stand the sound)

It's certainly a good idea to get experience on a small bike before moving up to a big one. I don't think it's necessarily worth trying to get a "fast" 125. They're all slow, but they all go fast enough for you to get the feel of it, and to check out the experience of being an invisible vehicle. They're also all easy to sell on. I'd say go for the bog-standard learner bike - Honda CG125 - and save the pennies for exciting machinery once you've got your full licence. Some bike training outfits will hire you a 125 which might also be worth looking into.
Thanks Pigeon I like the sound of hiring one. I was on a CG125 for my cbt and they weren't as slow as I though, although required canning to get going and no rev couter wtf so used to one in the alfa found it a bit weird. probably my skinny arse 58kg carcass helping it shift along. Anyone know any places near Reading that would trust me with a hire bike?
I'm in the same position as you - I've done my CBT and am now looking to do my direct access. Everyone I've spoken to has siad don't bother with getting a 125 - just get the DA out the way and get a 'sensible' first bike (600cc job). Buying a 125 you're only going to use for a few months will be a complete waste of money.

Yup, I agree. I passed nearly three weeks ago. Go straight for the DAS, pass, then get a bike and start getting some experience on the bigger 600 you're going to get anyway
Trust me, 125's and 500/600's are very different bikes. You think you're hooked now, but wait till you sit yer arse on the ER5 you'll do the DAS on!
