I'd like to think that is the case, and that it is hiding in someone's workshop/shed.
Some people have been re-united with their old RDs after a plea on the LC forum...I did come close to buying another a while back but lost the urge after looking at a few "mint" bodged heaps of st.
My old Katana's gone as well...

That's the thing with bikes, they can sit in the corner of a garage or shed covered in general household stuff taking up little room whereas a car would be somewhat in the way.
The X7 I bought last year was in a garage for 10 years or so, prior to that it was only used for racing and is now in many pieces in my loft & garage roof space - probably last taxed in 1986.
Problem with the internet, is that most people can get an idea (usually inflated) of what their stored bikes are worth, and of course they were running perfectly before they were abandoned! The idea of a cheap barn find is getting highly unlikely now.
eta - My old 350LC MOJ575X is sorned last MoT'd August 2013.
