Jianshe bikes good for a new rider?

Buy a good used cg or yb 125 for £700, pass test, sell for £700 when you are ready to upgrade.
I agree.I bought a used YBR for £800 for my Son. He used it for 2 years, put quite a few miles on it, crashed it twice. I put it on ebay and got £740 for it.
If you buy a new Jianshe (or similar) for £800, I doubt you'd get even half of that back after 2 years?
A decent, used 125 is virtually free for the time you'll want it...

Yeah that's what I think I'll do. That said, I can't seem to find a decent used YBR anywhere for less than £1000, I've looked on eBay, Gumtree, Autotrader... am I looking in the wrong places?I bought a used YBR for £800 for my Son. Before I passed my test I bought a 1993 CG125 (This was in 2010, so it was a 17yr old bike)
I paid £200, serviced it and stuck an MOT on.
Originally I thought I would keep it long enough to do my test and punt it on. Ended up keeping it a year and it managed 10,000 miles with my fat arse in all weathers without much in the way of maintenance.
Sold it for £200 too!
I guess my point is there are plenty of reliable wee 125's under £1k and you really don't need to spend any more.
I would far rather steer towards something like a CG or YBR over a CBR - the "sports" 125s round my way tend to be owned by teenagers who cant afford to service them and ride like idiots. (broken indicator / scratched fairing plus sports exhaust in the one linked?)
I would avoid chinese bikes and buy a Jap. For my money the YBR is a nicer bike than a CG - wire wheels on the CG will soon go orange if used all year round plus a wee bit more modern mechanically.
Alternatively a Honda Varadero 125 is a more grown up learner legal, quite comfy and nice v twin engine - probably a nicer thing to ride for two hours

Something like this one:

certainly what I would be looking at if I fancied another 125 for commuting

Don't Jianshe make the YBR? I'm pretty sure my YBR had a sticker on it saying so.
If they do, would it be subject to Yamaha quality control? After manufacturer, someone buys a batch of them, sticks their own badge on it, and imports it here, across their entire range - its like buying a BMW S1000RR for your superbike, a GSX-R 600 for a Supersports bike, a CBR 250 for a 250cc commuterish bike, etc. and then putting your own logo on them all, and selling them as your own bike.
In some cases, the copies are accurate enough that you can actually use them for spare parts for the real bike - the issue is that quality is not a requirement for a Chinese bike in the same way as it is for a Jap machine. Most "Jap" 125s are actually built in India/Korea/Taiwan/Thailand, to their own quality standards.

One last question! What should I be looking for when inspecting a used bike?
I'm off to look at a Yammy YBR (£1300, 10 plate, 3k miles) tonight and wondered what in-particular I should be looking out for to avoid getting ripped off.
Any service history, how many owners, signs of abuse (missing mirrors etc). I'm off to look at a Yammy YBR (£1300, 10 plate, 3k miles) tonight and wondered what in-particular I should be looking out for to avoid getting ripped off.
