removing tint film from non-homologated visors

It really is worth it given that you can buy a non-homologated one - which would start off as a clear one that's had a coating added - for under £15. How do the clear, uncoated and legal ones become £40-£50? There's no justification for that sort of price. We're being conned.
I might be being very naive here, but all the dark visors I've bought have just been darker plastic. They're not clear with a tinted film added...Unless you're buying el cheapo chinese knock off black visors in which case they may well be. If you're doing that, just buy an el cheapo chinese knock off clear visor. If it's clear, they won't check it. Hell most aren't even bothered about dark visors if used correctly.

so you have a dark one and rather than buy a clear one for £15 you want to wreck the £40 one.I mean I love a bargain, hell I'm as tight as they come but for fk sake even I draw the line here.

I can see your point, if it can be done. which I doubt its as I've always thought that it was a different colour polymer resin used for tinted visors

I have an original and a knock off visor, im going to do an impact test to see if there is any difference, by that I mean do both meet the minimum pass level.
I sincerely doubt there will be much difference.
I'd be interested to see the results to be fair.I sincerely doubt there will be much difference.
I'd also consider what kind of failure occurs, i.e. does it just snap, or does it shatter into a million blinding pieces.

secure a visor as it would be in the helmet
elevate a impact weight, in this case 2 kg plump weight that is tipped increasing the force of at impact, drop from a specific height, consistent height for both visors.
note the results.
typically you should repeat the test 5 times at least to get a mean.

Nay lad you've got it wrong: I bought a non-hom tinted one for £15 to avoid paying £40-£50 for a clear one. Clear ones are not available for £15. If they were I wouldn't be on here moaning
So basically you've wasted £15 whilst trying to save £20. Does what you're trying to do actually make sense in your head because it doesn't to me?Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
