Firstly, I loathe physical exercise unless its playing football.
Oh and I don't have a problem riding around the road, but I do on track days. When it gets to the end of the day and ive done over a 100 laps im fked, especially round knockhill as you never get a rest, my legs ache whilst riding. I'm not dying but I find myself holding back as im unfit as fk.
A friend pointed it out to me the last time I was there, everyone is getting off and eating bananas whilst looking like they hit the gym hard, while I get off and go for a fag and some Red Bull.
So, I decided to try insanity again as I've went from years of working on tools to a design job, (for those that don't know it) here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NEjf2unZSE
You basically jump about your living room pissing your downstairs neighbours off and collapsing in the a heap desperate for a fag. The last time I done it the difference was noticeable.
Does anyone else do a similar stty, preferably easier workout that I can do?

eat less. especially smaller portion sizes.
it's quite simply calories in/calories out. the easy way is to reduce calories in. the tough way is to increase calories out.
a combo is best, but for the lazy, just eat less.

And yes the duty free fags have finished I'm back on rollies.
Just before someone states, Give up smoking and eat healthier, away to fk! I love my fags too much.

I should say as well a big reason for this is the pain im getting in my shoulder again as it gets colder, I screwed it last year when I crashed and physio only works for a few days. Its trapped nerves apparently so I need to work it or it gets worse.
Exercising seems to help, so if anyone suffers a similar shoulder injury what works best.

not a whole lot you can exercise without using the shoulder. Tuesday night I sat in the freezing cold at the football and the feeling of a knife being stuck in my shoulder blade was back.
after 5 days of exercise I sat today at the football with no pain, so it does help it lots working it.
That was the main reason I started exercising again, as its cheaper and better than physio
If your just doing it for bike stuff I think you will be better doing something for a longer time like get out on a push iron, run or swim.
I found it's completely different sort of fitness doing running to something like insanity balls out for a short periods which is why I say probably doing something for a longer period will be better.
I've just got my arse back in gear again and getting the gym again after being injured which then turned into being a lazy sod + piled on the timber. Forgot how much I enjoy it although I was that sore last weekend I struggled to get my leathers on and off

I reckon moanthebairns and Barry Sheene would have got on like a house on fire. Get off the bike after a good thrape and fire up a fag - great stuff.

Stretches and light cardio would be good though.
4 times a week I row for 30- 60 minutes, do 50 press ups (probably not good for you though ) and have started to do weights as well. Get that metabolism going!
The video you posted looks very good as there's not much impact on joints etc but it's also hard and demands strong will power to do this on a regular basis.
The Canadian Mounties designed a really good quick 15--20 minute workout you can do at home (my old man used to do it the kitchen before he went to work ) - do that every morning and it will make a difference - look it up on the web.
And STOP smoking!! (I used to, so I understand, but please just stop - it's a terrible habit!)

I hurt my shoulder years ago and find it aches if I don't go to,the gym for a while. When I am regularly going to the gym it feels great, so,it must be something to do with building the muscle strength up around it.
As to the fitness thing, watching what you eat isn't just about your weight. I'm similar to you in that I can eat whatever the hell I want without putting on weight, but as soon as I eat healthier (smaller portions, less crap) my fitness level jumps up within a few days. Think of it like your bike, put better fuel in it and it'll perform better.

Agreed ... Cycle ... I'm getting back into it as feeling unfit lately. Also have a shoulder issue due to nerves / collarbone screwed together and I use lightweights to stretch the tendons and improve strength in shoulder. The cold is a bd though.
Your not going hard enough if your cold Get some good socks, seal skins gloves and a good base layer and you will be just right
i have had excellent results with insanity. The secret is not to go at it like the "models" in the video, go at your own pace be patient for results, there was an instant result in the two months because i was just shifting gut,
the second attempt, i didn't have any results so i went and did another regime in their suite of regimes. i didn't do much over the summer but now i have gone back and the other half commented that it has had the desired effect, I'm back in large T shirts and 34 inch waist jeans from XL T shirts and 36 inch jeans/trousers.

Hey MTB. Sounds to me like it's your lifestyle that's holding you back and not your lack of exercise. Stop eating complete ste like Smacky Dee's and chocolate cakes. Replace with 2l of water a day and some proper food. Oh and cut the fags.
Once you have that sorted , you could start working on your fitness. Running twice a week and 2 anaerobic workouts a week would get you easily fit enough. 2 sessions of squats a week would get your legs fit enough for any track day. You don't need a gym membership, just a chin up bar or some weights at home.
