that is a great idea.
Vale was tricky, along with club ( I think) I was always coming into the corner to deep and ran out of room on the exit, there were many other parts of the circuit I found tricky, but copse, maggots and becketts I found fast and good. I always held back until I was 100% sure I could pass and not st the other rider up, other riders would just fly past. There were a few wipe-outs!
I was in the Novice and glad I was not in Inters. To behonest looking over the pit wall I could not tell the difference between inters and fast.
Grab a copy of the MotoGP games (assuming you have a playstation/xbox,..) then learn the lines. That's how I learnt a fair bit, that and an onboard cam from the MotoGP riders off the MotoGP site videos (they may be available on youtube). The lines people (and instructors) took varied compared to all the MotoGP boys which I found fairly interesting. Once you learn the circuit it gets a lot easier. I still struggle with Vale (pig of a corner!), getting village and the loop flowing smoothly and turning into Brooklands too early.

As you can see, ALOT to learn. I'm still crap
I should have gone inters but it was only my second time there. First time I got 2 sessions before the day was rained off and then this time every session was red flagged, two of the sessions had 2 red flags. It was unbelievable.

Great day had at Silverstone, beautiful weather.
I really struggled with the circuit and even now I would struggle to visually take myself around the circuit. It was huge and complex in parts. What really confused was the 2 pit straights at either end. One had a tight entry and fast exit and the other was the other way round, so I always found myself being cautious taking into account that I had a 70 mile trip home. I think instruction on lines would be beneficial, there were also no markers for braking points, apex etc ( which some find useful)
In my 1st session I was following an 06 R1 into Vale ( I think ) and his sump plug fell out, bounced and hit me in the shoulder, covered me in Oil, the bloke shat his leathers but somehow stayed on.
The speed of the groups was also good, ok you had some really slow riders in the Novice group, but not many. I got well and truly shown up by a guy on an SV650 and I think he actually whopped everybody. There were also a couple of guys on GSXR750ww's, one of the guys was approx 80 years old in 1970's leathers and he was scraping the pegs and overtook me.
All in all a great day and worth the experience, some lovely kit there, 3 month old RSV4R with full carbon fairings, 1299's, R1M's you name it and all with loud pipes which all seemed to pass. In Novice and inters you don't even have to have a noise test.
They were also setting up for the BSB, so major construction was ongoing.
I'm amazed you stayed on if that was the case with that guy's R1! Very lucky. I really struggled with the circuit and even now I would struggle to visually take myself around the circuit. Anyone at Oulton next week? Still spaces in fast and slow groups. Only £210 I think, I am staying in the pits over night, dead cosy.
I wish but I'm skint. Might come over and watch for a bit though.I am going for a mooch on Weds, I won't tell Alex though as he may fall off at the thought of it!

I'm considering Donny Thursday and or Anglesey on Friday.
Still, I can always use the tyre warmers tomorrow night.
Even though you're sleeping in the pit, still put your tent up. It keeps a lot of the cold off you.

I'm sure it was 25 degrees that day.
