I feel the same about Oulton Park ... it doesn't help I've not had much track time at all due to weather, so I'm hoping I just need plenty of practise!

The new layout at Snetterton is fkn wk, I loved the old track. I'll never go back to Snetterton as long as they run the new layout.

Same for Cadwell with that Micky mouse chicane before the mountain, I understand the need for BSB or fast club racers but not for knob jockeys like me who do TD's.

I feel better getting that off my chest.

Snetterton and Oulton couldn’t be more different. One is stop start with two massive flat out straights, the other never gives you a rest and rewards smooth riding.

I really struggled with Snetterton but forced myself to get to grips by doing an endurance and sprint races there last year with NLR. Came away much happier. Ditto Croft. It’s about learning to ride all sorts of tracks not just one.

If you like Cadwell then you should love Oulton as it the same sort of track only wider and faster and a lot nearer.

So I did the evening session at Snet yesterday.

Gino Rea doing his bit at Mach3...bloody hell...

For me, I hate Snetterton. I just can't ever seem to gel with the place. Yesterday was a clear example of it. I felt like I should have been in novice group. Felt all at sea, couldn't relax, vowing never to go back to Snet.

I'm happy at other tracks. I just feel the almost stop start nature of it doesn't suit me at all. Like it doesn't have a flow to it, being interupted by hairpins and chicanes constantly...

Meh. I'm booked for Monday 11th evening session again to see if I can get out of the funk of the place.
I did Snetterton for the first time a couple of weeks back. When I finally got through the noise test by 11am, I really enjoyed it! I wouldn’t say it was particularly stop start, only the hairpin which I didn’t like. A lot of the other corners seemed pretty fast, turn 3 was mega. I’m really looking forward to racing there

I think the changes made to Snetterton really improved the circuit. My only complaint would be removing the very small section of straight before the last turn onto the start finish. This catches quite a lot of people out who ‘think’ they have nailed Corams

Awesome day at Silverstone today. Warm sunshine and a real lack of crashes in my group. First trackday on my 636 and I really gelled with it.
It was busy but with 3.7 miles of track it was spread out enough that it didn’t spoil it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't really like Snetterton 300.
I'm racing there later this year, but we're using the 200 layout. I initially liked the new layout, and the track, but as I've got more experienced and done other tracks, it just lost it's appeal.

I've hopefully sorted out a minor issue I had with the bike/throttle so next time might be better for me.

Good day at Croft. First ride on the track hack I picked up over the winter. It goes well apart from struggling to start when the battery gets hot (it sits next to the exhaust). Couple of friendly lads gave me a bump start.
Coincidentally, bumped into the guy that used to race my bike and he told me a bit of history about it being raced at the TT a few times.

Had a good day at Oulton Park Wednesday and started to make some progress on track with the R1. Woke up feeling a bit peeved as the weather didn't look all that great, more so with the days either side of the TD being glorious sunshine! However, I arrived at the circuit to be greeted with a dry track and it continued to get warmer all day so I was happy!

First couple of sessions out of the way I went and got an instructor to show me round to help with my lines, mostly they were ok other than needing to use more of the track but a few places he did differently that really helped me make a bit more progress. Come the last session before lunch I was feeling comfortable and started to enjoy it more and get a bit of a rhythm going ... switching the throttle mapping to 'B' mode helped massively through the tight bits such as shell and the chicane so I left it in this mode for the rest of the day as it gave me a lot of confidence to drive the bike out of bends without it picking up to aggressively. It smoothed everything out.

After lunch first session out and caught up an RSV4, overtook it round cascades then in a straight line he'd disappear into the distance ... absolutely rapid machine... then I'd catch him again on the entry to cascades. This happened for 2-3 laps and remembering Gavia's words of wisdom I was going to roll through the pits to give myself some space, but managed to get past him on the third lap and create some space.

Did the 6th session faster than I ever have at that place and decided that was enough for one day and happy with progress and in one piece - I was knackered, so got my stuff together and headed home.

The R1 was brilliant. Yes, its a bit more hardwork than the Fireblade. It also doesn't feel as stable as the Fireblade did on the front end when hard on the brakes, although I'm not sure why ...possibly the weight of it or the suspension needs further fettling... the oil light kept coming on again so I taped it up as it was mega distracting ... I also had an issue with the quickshifter shifting up coming out of deers leep to keep the front end down I got a false shift and the rear wheel locked up ... a proper poo movement redface ... a quick fettle of the settings in the pits and it was fine for the day.

Great place - So hard to ride and proper demanding as you don't get to rest - but when you starting building up a rhythm and piecing it together its fantastic! Only two red flags per group all day as well!

I did knockhill in reverse on Friday.
It's was roasting and dry, Lewis rollo was there.

My back was and still is fked with a trapped nerve so I found it incredibly tough. However two weeks and no fags is helping.

I rode around the wrong way, I loved it, I rode around some more, I actually enjoyed and I mean properly enjoyed riding a bike again. My back got worse, I got worse, then I noticed a slight oil leak and that was that.

They run it in reverse? Do they race that too? Must be carnage going into that hairpin on the first lap!

Did a SACU organised track night yesterday at Knockhill, bloody fantastic.

20 odd riders, all orange bib guys, 4 x 20 min sessions, at most 10 in a group and all for the pricey sum of £30.

pros,

- starting to see benefit of quitting smoking, not breathing out my arse after two laps
- got smoother
- got dry weather practice in, learned to trail brake again
- enjoying it again

cons

- im still st
- bike still has a slight oil leak so thats me gubbed for racing this weekend.
- backs still fked

Cadwell tomorrow - looks a tad damp.

Might move my space on if anyone wants it.

I should be finally doing a track day on the GSXR I bought 2 months ago!

It's expensive but anyone form here going to Silverstone on the 29th May?
It's nearly here, has anyone else booked on?

Any top tips for Silverstone beyond the usual? I haven't ridden on track since Snetterton in October last year so looking forward to it!

Hopefully see someone from BB there

I did Silverstone with Nolimits on Tuesday in the Sunshine
To be honest, I struggled to ride my bike properly as was knackered having ridden a full day of Pitbikes on both Saturday and Sunday and worked at Silverstone for their own day on Monday, but it was nice just to be out in the sunshine on my own big bike for once.
My mate, who'd booked me on, promptly borrowed my bike for a session and went faster on it in one session than I had all day, c**t ! smile
I'm working there again next Tuesday on the GP circuit if anyone's up there for that one ?

Pit bikes are surprisingly tiring considering they are "just a kid's bike".

If you mean the 29th then I'll be there, purple/white 90's Frank Thomas leathers and a GSXR 750 SRAD with black fairings & red/black tank. Give me a wave if you see me or come and say hi

Only just seen this. Was out in inters on a stickerbombed GSXR1000, the group felt pretty pretty slow till later afternoon when someone actually passed me. I guess the heat and tiredness got to me but it takes the mickey when you are surprised how slow some people are going. I need to start booking into advanced and tagging onto faster riders. Was a great day though. Back next Thursday on a Ducati if the weather holds out but at the moment it's looking like pissing rain so wets will be on the GSXR. Should be fun!
