Not quite track prepped for Saturday at Pembrey....

Currently rebuilding the forks. Does any body have a base set up, or handy rough guide for where to set the compression/rebound? I was planning to to standard settings and tweak throughout the day but if any one has a better idea or a guide (say X% increase) from road for track it would be appreciated.
moto_traxport will know a good setting for your bike.
No idea why! hehe

I get mixed up with my Tom's - one might have an old R1 like my white & red one but that looks like an SRAD GSX-R to me. I only own one GSX-R at the moment (a later model 750K1 and not ridden it more than 50 miles) in addition to the 3 R1's. Summer sale required.

My best mate is an Ohlins / Racetech / Matris trained techy so I generally DO NOT TOUCH once set - it would be like having a dog and learning how to bark myself!

I might allow myself some pointing, nodding and shaking of head and passing on of half learnt titbits of info.
One of the Tom's does have a 99 R1... the same Tom also has a GSXR srad in the picture tongue out
R1 for the road (still not finished it) and GSXR for track

I found a reasonable guide on line with regard to how to measure rebound and compression once the preload is set so will try it and report back if it's any good thumbup

Good day at Cadwell last Sunday.
Next one is Knockhill reverse, so I can use the other side of the tyres and even it out....

I did a bit of a rattle can job on the fairings to smarten it up slightly. Only problem is having a brain fart I completely fked up the measuring of my air gap meaning the whole forks have to come back out, be stripped and re-done.

It's gonna be a late night by the time I get to Pembrey!

Jerez

Before I post anything, any joy I had about being away on track was ruined by the news that a workmate died the day after I got back on the Friday morning.

I first met Billy in 1988 and we got on well over the years, he was 3 months older than me, heart attack is what did for him. He was a real character and a genuine devoted family man,

Day 1

Did the sighting laps and came in because I was scared I was going to crash after my "thing" at Croft a few weeks earlier.

I'm not a Moto GP, WSB, BSB or even a club racer, I'm old, broken and really can't take anymore Hospital food.

I did do the last session when most had gone back to the Hotel and felt OK on track.

Day 2

Out every session but didn't do the full 20 minutes later in the day as I was in to much pain from my hip.

Day 3

I did every session again and according to the times was on equal times with the rest of my lot, this seemed to anger them and new rear tyres were fitted and they went out and tried their hardest and got a 1.3 600cc 1.8 second a lap jump on me for our best laps.

There were 4 or 5 lads that were on McKeans pace which was really annoying because if you're as fast as ghim you's should fk off and race and leave TD's to old knackers like myself.

I had my camera on a few times but when I plugged it into the computer it said No, so its in my wardrobe until I can be arsed to have another go.

One of the lads suggested we all go out and get some footage so we did.

Nobody doing Snetterton Monday?

Heading up tomorrow, I’m taking my B1H, my brother on his 600RR and my dad has just bought a G2 zx6r today as he doesn’t want to take his street triple.
Looking forward to it, weather looks cracking

I've got a solid week on track this week, and now the Summer's finally arrived, I should actually get a few dry days in
I'm at Silverstone tomorrow, and then having my first trip to Anglesey on Wednesday/Thursday for a couple of days with mates at a James Whitham thingy.
Not been there before, so looking forward to seeing what the 'Welsh Philip Island' is actually like

You're in for a treat mate, Anglesey when the weather is like this is the best track to be at in the UK.

On a slightly different note, my 11yr old son has just stepped up from Mini Moto racing onto a Metrakit GP50. We've only had it a few weeks, and although he's picked it up really quickly, he managed to smash it to bits yesterday at Kinsham Raceway
In typical racer style, he has every excuse under the sun as to why it happened and none of them include it being his fault smile

This is from the morning when it was still in one piece :

And this is the crash from the end of the day (He claims he lost drive out the corner and couldn't stand it up - I think he was too busy wearing his elbow sliders out and forgot there was a straight)
https://youtu.be/QcLm8Ii31TU

Anyway, this was the end result:

He's perfectly fine and his helmet did a great job, but Initial inspection shows broken parts as follows :
Fairings
Tank cover
Seat Unit
Dash
Dash bracket
Dash power unit
Exhaust
Forks
Screen
Left Rear set
Rear M/C
Right gear selector shaft
Upper Yoke

Only just sold my spare ZX10R race bike to fund this bike, so he's going to be doing some work for me to pay for the repairs.

Bloody kids eh

That video! haha I think your analysis was correct.

Bikes all ready to be loaded up for Portimao on Sunday.

Anyone on here there for the NL trip?

Good to hear he's okay, I think I recognise that camera drop at the end, it's the 'fookin hell what've they done now' parent sprinting across to see how broken their kid might be.

Epic video mind.

ETA: removed some text that could be misconstrued.

Had my first of two days with Whitham Trackdays at Anglesey yesterday
It’s a cracking circuit, but has taken some learning
Whitham days are super relaxed, and I think we had just 12-13 people in fast group yesterday
Looking forward to riding again today

Do you do the costal or international? I’m booked on the ones at the end of August, haven’t ridden Anglesey since I had a massive accident there 2 years back so it seemed quite a relaxed way to get back into riding it

We did the full international circuit. It's a lot of fun, and with two days there, it being a long bloody way from home, and it being near 30deg both days, it felt a bit like a mini Euro trip smile

The Whitham days are good, and this was super relaxed. We had a few star riders there, although in reality, we barely saw them unless you went and asked for their help.
Fast group was made up of only 14 or so riders, and 4 of them were myself, two of my mates and the PH'er formally known as LoonR1, so we had a good bunch.
I'd say that unless you're going with faster friends, you'll be disappointed if you're looking for someone to have some fun with as the fast group pace (excluding us, obviouslysmile) was more akin to a mid inters pace at any other track day.
The riders Whitham employs are a super experienced bunch - Ste Brogan, Adam Jenkinson, Dean Harrison, Jenny Tinmouth and Lee Johnstone
Well worth the money for just two days of empty track

Here's the only video I've managed to get work from my Camera from day 2 so far
As you'll see, I have no idea where I'm going and hit about 1 in 10 apexes, which in fairness is my normal lap style smile
