To be honest, I've considered all those mentioned above.
Just saw Gino might have been out in Cartagena when I'm there so would tie in nicely.

But I'll look at someone else later in the year I reckon.
Am currently mid WhatsApp convo with Chris at HPC, he is on the Cartegena 14th-16th Jan NL trip if thats the one you are one, ping him and tell him Dibble sent you ....
Any idea of his rates?

He often cuts a service to suit a budget, best thing would be have a chat with him, he does everything from rider clinics (6:1 over 3 days) to 1:1 so best talk to him direct, what I can say is he ain't Gino Rea money lol ...

Anybody been to Almeria?

I'll be going at the end of Feb next year for 4 days on track and curious whether my tyres will be up to it. I'll be riding my 1999 R1 (if I get it sorted in time but that's another point)

My main issue is I'm being tight and the rear tyre (bridgestone S21) is brand new so don't want to put something more track bias if I don't have too.

1) How abrasive is the cicruit? Am I likely to trash the rear in 4 days?
2) Are the temps/conditions typically going to allow me to wobble around on S21's?

TIA

S21 will be fine on track but almeria is pretty abrasive so i’d Definitely consider taking a spare set with you. It all depends on pace of course, but it’s better to have them and not need them

Not done Almeria before but if it's warm and you're enjoying yourself a new rear is unlikely to last 4 days on an early R1.

Still a great idea to go out on a sporty road tyre as it covers most eventualities of skill, pace & weather.

Keep an eye out for someone taking it all too seriously binning some slicks with plenty of life still in them after the first few days, buy them for 60 to 80 and chuck them on for days 3 and 4.

P.S. Always amusing if you can manage to overtake the chap you've bought the tyres off on somethings he's thrown away.

That’s why I never sell my tyres to Jon, preferring to burn them rather than take the £60

Last Friday open pit from 9am-5pm, 30 minutes cars then 30 minutes bikes, copy and repeat on the GP circuit in Bahrain. Six of our seven rides did the track day which we used to go through a series of suspension settings. A long hard day but some good improvements were made.

Cheers chaps! Sadly as I thought that I may as well take a spare set with me! I probably should have said before but I'm booked in inters and typically in the UK I run comfortably in that although appreciate euro days may be a different kettle of fish.

Won't be rushing to buy part worn slicks in a hurry as I'm not planning to run warmers purely because it's an extra expense I can do without right now hehe

False economy I think - from someone who pulls tyres out of skips! You can get them from £40 s/hand to £100 new assuming you've got stands and an extension lead. Or borrow / hire a set.

Each session is 8 to 9 laps and you'll be thinking 'cold tyres' for a lap and a half limiting your enjoyment. Multiply this by 7 sessions a day and then by 4 days.

They make the tyres last longer (cold tearing / heat cycles / blah blah blah). It's safer - apart from you falling off, it diminishes speed differential between you and others on the out lap. On the Euros more than UK days you get to know who is speedy and who is a roadblock in your group - if you're speedy most of the time but slow on the first laps you could catch someone out. It also allows use of tyres designed for the job i.e. slicks.

Fair amount of S1000RR, slicks, carbon bodywork, lap timers, airbag leathers type brigade in Inters on the Euros so you might be a bit further 'back' than normal. They'll be great to play with but you are limiting yourself a bit I think for a cheap bit of kit.

If you'd booked into Novice on a VFR800 and just fancied grinding your toes with a childish grin for 4 days it would be a different kettle of fish.

The offer was 60 Euros! Same thing soon I suppose.

Where've you booked for next year Neil? Half of my group have retired and the other half in some sort of mid Winter dormant family mode!

If I could have picked novice I would but I didn't book or pay for it!

I was planning to buy a set of warmers but the cost is putting me off. I just wanted someone to agree with me so I don't feel so bad rather than tell me what I know deep down rofl

This 100%, I'm slow but bought some warmers specifically so I didn't have to second guess about warming the tyres on the first lap and excessive wear. Also being able to check pressure consistently.

I got a pair of diamond ones for 50 quid second hand on eBay. Felt very unnecessary at my pace but once you're used to using them a decent second hand pair are worth it just for the extra fun in that first and second lap.

I spent the morning tinkering with my new bike. Taking it out to Cartagena on Feb 9th, and it feels like ages away still frown

Almeria is supposed to be the driest place in Europe, although when I was there back in 2016, it rained hard for both days we had on the circuit, and I know others that have had their share of wet days there too.
This is from my trip in 2016, and as barely anyone took wets with them, they made it open pit lane, so I'd get about a million laps a day in doing tank after tank of Fuel, which was fun

A tip on R1's of that age is to remove the nut and bolt that holds the back of the mudguard on and includes the little brake line bracket and replace it with a cable tie. Easier with the wheel out.

It stops the tyre warmer snagging on the nut / end of bolt. It was generally part of my ritual when track prepping mine and the torn sides of the front warmer a sign I'd forgotten once or twice.

Ah so you've got One, nice.

There's someone from the lakes got an allocation from my local dealers.

I was thinking about chopping mine in for one but apparently there's no chance of getting one.

Isn't that a regular R1 that's been converted for track rather than an anniversary model or that GYTR one?

Silver engine = 2015 or 2016 Euro 3 compliant model rather than the 2017 onwards black engine and it's more painful ECU.
