Do you think some of that is how the place looks? Riding a top gp circuit with all the flash facilities does make it a lot better experience. I genuinely love the circuit myself though.
Hi, for me, no, I've ridden most of the euro circuits, Parcmotor is just as basic and in my opinion a better circuit, Almeria is like a Valencia, its ok, but that's about it .....I’ve been to Portimao and Almeria, think I actually prefer riding Almeria. I only did half a day at Portimao but it was too bumpy, although that should have been sorted now. Also it rains a lot there (hence the only riding half a day). Almeria is spot on value for money wise, it’s actually quite a tricky circuit to get a decent laptime as there’s a few blind tip ins over crests

Portimao is smooth as again, as for rain I have been 5 times and lost 1/2 a day to rain in total. As for tricky, if Almeria is tricky then Portimao with all its undulations is unfathomable....

When’s the best months for portimao? I’ve still never been but it’s the one I want to go to most! I can’t see it happening next year but I’ve got it pencilled in for 2022
I've been March twice, April once and Oct twice, 1/2 day of rain across the lot, next year booked for June ... hoping its warm ...dibblecorse said:

Luck of the draw. Like I said I’ve been once and lost 2.5 days to it! Lagos is a nice place to kill time thoughAs for tricky, if Almeria is tricky then Portimao with all its undulations is unfathomable....
I found out Portimao a lot easier to learn. There’s undulations but none of the corners are blind entry, and there’s a lot of tarmac run off in case you do run wide. Al individual preference though, I didn’t think it was that great. It wasn’t bad but not in my top 5
I’m looking to get a track bike joining in on the track fun, but I’ve got a few questions I’m hoping so of you in here can answer. I know the costs will vary greatly depending on bike and ability but for a novice just starting off:
How much typically is spent on a running costs/consumables per track day?
How long roughly do tyres last?
Any recommendations on bikes? £4000 budget.
Is there anything in particular to look out for when looking at track bikes?

Ive been to Portimao 7 or 8 times and I've only had 1 trip where it didn't rain, May I think it was.
Anyway, I'm going next May so fingers crossed.
Remind me never to book with you lolAnyway, I'm going next May so fingers crossed.
I've been three times now, so 9 days in total, and only had 1 completely dry day there. It's a great fun track in the wet, but it just doesn't dry out and the first couple of the last 4 right handers had water coming up through the track even when the rest was pretty much bone dry
I've only ever been in late Nov/January though, so if I was to go again, I'd aim for Sept/Oct or Mar/Apr as apparently it's bonkers hot there once you got out the spring or well into the Autumn
I've only been to Almeria once about 4 years ago, and although I wasn't blown away by the circuit, I quite liked it and it's quite a ballsy and challenging track. I really like Cartagena though, as it's a tough track to master but mega when you can string it all together
We're back at Cartagena in January with Race Shift for 3 days of open pit lane and some racing on the final afternoon
If you ever head to Cartagena, sack the TD provided hotel off, and stay at a place called Casa Perez.
It's a privately owned villa with about 7 rooms, and you get looked after really well by the English owners. It's about the same distance from the track as the NL hotel, but way better and not far off the same cost as you get back from NL for not taking accommodation

I imagine the answer to the cost starts at "very little", and ends up at "however much you want to spend". At the lower end of the scale, I have a 97 GSXR600 which cost me £700, I replaced a few bits and put track bodywork on so call it £1000. It's on road tyres, which are plenty good enough at my level and will last me 2-3000 miles at least, so the only consumables are £20 of fuel per track day (plus fuel for the van to get there), then (at the rate I'm going) oil, filters once a year and brake pads every couple of years maybe? How much typically is spent on a running costs/consumables per track day?
How long roughly do tyres last?
Any recommendations on bikes? £4000 budget.

CBR600RR is the ideal starter bike. How much typically is spent on a running costs/consumables per track day?
How long roughly do tyres last?

Costs depend on if you crash or not. Say £50 on fuel, bit of chain lube. Also a lot depends on your pace. In novice group you might get 4-5 days out of a set of tyres whereas at the top of fast you might get a day out of a rear. Same with brake pads. Other than that not too much to spend on. Oil and filter every few track days, new brake fluid/suspension service once a year
4k is a good starting budget, if you are on FB the No Limits Racing / Social page has a regular flow of listings of track bikes, many are well prepped with some spares etc.
As has been mentioned, the quicker you get, the more expensive it gets, more fuel, more tyres, more brake pads, and then the inevitable, more power .... its a slippery slope my friend .... UK TDs become Euros and before you know it you've used all your annual leave up and have just enough money and annual leave left to take your missus to Bognor for the weekend !!!
