98Db is the Flyby limit, i'd say you'll be fine with some baffles.

Yep should have put flyby in my post. The cans don't have the traditional provision for baffles I.e a hole for baffles to be screwed into place hence the question

Ah rgr that,

As far as i'm aware, 98db is equivalent to around 105db static, (it doesn't always work like that but it's a good indicator)

I've done Pembrey on my 17 R1 with a SC Project SC1R system fitted along with the baffle and had no issues with their 102db static or 96db flyby, i can't imagine your R1 is quite as loud as that with the mircons.

If it helps, i bought this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hand-Held-W-Unique-Measur...

Did the standard ACU Noise test and it was within 1db of the actual test on the day.

You can drill a couple of holes in the underside of the outlets shirley?

Just make sure the baffle outer dia are a reasonably snug fit when buying.

A question if I may - my R1 (above) has a micron full system and no provision for baffles.

How do you accurately test the dB without taking it to a track?
I know that's the preferred method but it'd be a minimum of a 2hr round trip to the nearest track and it means loading the bike in a van to do so.
Also I know that phone apps are not a reliable test so what's the best solution?

Is it hope for the best?

Limit for the day is 98dB and its a Donnington day through Bennetts if that is likely to make any difference

Cheers in advance beer
I ran my 04 R1 on track for 8 years with a de cat and no baffles. Mine passed at donington on quiet days.

I would make sure your cans are freshly packed.

They are quite quiet with the twin long cans.

I could do but don't want to drill holes in a system if it's not required. Seems silly putting holes where they're not meant to be in a system worth circa £500 now (originally 1k I imagine)

Cheers BN thumbup the cans to my knowledge can't be taken apart... Not riveted like many cans. May have to do some research

Thanks for the info though, feel more confident in it now

Try a noise test on your phone - assuming you have a modern smart phone they have sophisticated and very accurate microphone arrays, and (for example) Bosch do an excellent environment testing app for smartphones which logs the data too.

Has anyone ever done an MSV track academy course?
The reason I ask is some of my mates are doing Donny on a certain date but the day is fully booked now and the only way on is through the track academy.
The cost is not so much putting me off but the fact i'm pretty much a complete novice and don't really know if it's aimed at someone like me.
If it would help improve my road and track riding then it may be money well spent.

Well today hasn't ended well. Huge 3rd gear highside coming through the Devils Elbow in the 1st session after lunch.

Bike is obliterated, my collarbone is definitely broken (heading north to get checked out at Dryburn) and suspected broken ankle.

I'm gutted though cos I was getting down in to the 1.02's which I was happy with seeing as though it's my 1st time at Mallory.

No chance. I'll take a photo when I get chance, but my bike is absolutely banjaxed.
Cheers though.

Get well soon and here’s hoping the bike’s mostly okay under the crumpled bodywork and smashed off sticky out stuff.

Feeling slightly guilty about my “It’ll be fine!” attitude to your post a few pages back regarding whether to change the back tyre or not.

Ankle is swollen but not fractured. My boot has blue paint on it so it looks like I've ttted one of the lumps on the kerb.

Clavicle is snapped in 2.

One good bit of news is that 1 piece of bike (only 1 piwce mind) came away undamaged....... An indicator biggrin

Phew, the bill should be suitably modest then.

Good to hear the ankle isn't broken at least, that'd be a double pain in the arse with a collar bone as well.
