Picked up my 1299 today. I'm still speechless.

So hopefully a few of you lucky lucky boys & girls have had time to get over the 'honeymoon' period now. (I have my eye wandering towards the none S model at the mo).
Been offered a none too pisstakey part exchange on my Black Yellow K5 GSXR 1000 (c£4k if anyone wants a 20.5k miles very tidy nice example).
What say ye BBDucatisti?
Insurance, Running & Service costs?
Dealer support?
Reliability/all round use-ability?
Tyre life & tank range?
Fun factor after the newness has gone away?
Fit & finish of the bike after a few k miles??
Anyone done any long distance work feedback (300-400 miles plus in a day)??

Power, especially midrange is astounding. Electronics seem good with a couple of caveats. Mainly there seems to be a big problem if you alter the final drive ratio to outside the Ducati 'window" Basically the bike can't calibrate and all kinds of mad things happen.
Reliability is going to have to be seen. Going by the 1199 I know of only 2 1199's that ate their engines, something every 916-1198 would eventually do, regardless of mileage or useage.
dealer support and running costs ect I can't say but overall the fit and finish seems very good.
Heat from the rear pipe can be an issue for some but the ergo's are night and day compared to the older bikes. Much wider bars, more open riding position but rock hard seat apparently.
And re the base model, apparently Marzocchi have pulled out of the bike suspension market so whether that has an effect on servicing or parts for the forks it might be worth asking.

The obvious choice would be some Ohlins/K Tech/Mupo cartridges/valve kits etc if that's what's needed. Going by a friends base 1199 the suspension on that was pretty woeful. But by comparison, a couple of mates have the S model with the funky suspension and for race use they're not liking it. You can set the suspension into fixed mode but that sort of defeats to point.But for road use, if that's what you're thinking, the premium for the S with its Ohlins electronic suspension and lighter wheels and later resale value might be the better option in the long run?
Thought a bit of an update needed about my 1299s now I have thrashed it over 3k miles.
It wheelies off the power in 4th and every gear over crests and bumps, I have dwc turned off so have to back it off when pressing on to stop it looping the loop etc.
Up/down qs is a game changer as is the semi active leccy suspension! Love it! You can feel the suspension electrics working when cranked over etc as a faint 'thrum' through the bars. Had a few inertia sensor errors when wheelying for any serious distance (note: for the armchair police this was not on uk roads but on eu Autobahn during a summer ring trip etc)
This switched off leccy suspension and all rider aids apart from the qs, Really missed the leccy suspension when this happened. It really does work fantastic on the road (bumpy roads in particular) and my best analogy is its like the extra plushness of Ohlins over normal suspension, the same again over Ohlins! Very subtle but very good!
The spring in the exhaust valve is not strong enough to hold it open, symptoms are reluctance to rev out above 9.5k in 5th & 6th. Fix is to disconnect the valve servo power and lock wire the valve open. Wonder how many tests this has been occurring resulting in scoring it down on top speed etc?!
Latest generation Racetec RR tyres are mega, although they don't last long! Running a k1 front with 29psi cold and k3 rear with 30 cold on the road, about 3-4psi lower on track. You can feel the carcass flex when cold but it comes too when warmed. Lost feel when pushing the front when I tried higher normal road pressures, works for me at what seems like a lower pressure. Surprised at how much difference just a couple of psi makes. Used a K2 rear which was great but too soft for track day hero/fast road antics. K3 more than good enough. Currently 2x K3 & 1x K2 rears to 1x K1 front.

Not sure running a K1 on the road is the best idea, especially paired with a K3 rear. You'd be far better off on a K3 front & rear for road and then use K1/2 combos for track. Road use won't create the friction required to keep the heat in a K1,which you've kind of alluded to. H
Haha!! The non riding boys in the pub will be impressed with those numbers ....just not these boys ...i ..spline problem on front sprocket, maybe ...?

By my reckoning/ gearing sheets, 9300 in 6th on the long standard gearing should be about 260kph or about 161 in old money.Something looks a little out to be reading 175mph at 9300 rpm.

There's little wonder I've not been back on here since I asked about turning the anti wheelie ste off the beemer,you boys own the forum your welcome to it,as chillo said its just a vid at the end of a track session,he's clearly somehow fudged the speedo reading just to leave himself open to scrutiny of the laptop warriors on here! It's a road bike and that's what the speedo read END OF! Clearly it's not 100% accurate but who said speedos are! My beeper reads similar on a decent clear lap if I dare look!
