Thanks Tim! The read really brightened up my day.

One quick question, the packing procedure seems a bit rough.

Seems like rubbing/knocks from gear that is packed in the crate might be quite likely? Did you have to provide your tie downs as well, any adult supervision (I will need it) available?
I can help on this one having done it a fair few times, its a doddle, and although it looks very cramped, nothing that could do any damage actually moves, basically once you have the bikes strapped down, you effectively wedge stuff in or strap stuff on in such a way as that nothing delicate is being rubbed or pushed upon, I have at times used an old sheet or towel to just put between bodywork and say paddock stands for instance, also because you are there doing the packing you take the care that you believe it deserves, in regards straps they will loan you straps, I think they are a quid each and are the 'pull to tension' ones and not the ratchet type, I personally take my own as that way I know I have my bike exactly how I want it smile

Basically you have complete control of what rests where against your bike, but I can get with mine my large kit bag, 2 pairs of boots, 2 boxed helmets, spare tyres, front & back paddock stands, tyre warmers and other guff and if you work with the person you share a crate with, all is golden smile also 2 people can generally fit more onto a double stillage like that one than they could if they had 2 of the single stillages.

HTH smile
I don't worry about things getting scratched or rubbed against as I know the bike will be taking more abuse when it goes down the road

As above really. The only thing that was up against body work was tyres really. Everything in the middle we wrapped in towels and everything is wedged in so no moving/bouncing. Then it all gets wrapped in shrink wrap. (Make sure you buy the good pallet wrap and not 15p Tesco value cling film....not that I did that...honest.)
Also you'd obviously be more aware and gentle than us as our bikes were only worth as much as the tyres we took.

Also be very careful loading the bike if the metal corner posts aren't on. My mate took a huge Chunk of belly pan off as he didn't see it when pushing it on.

Tim85 great write up. Feeling the same way as I just got back from Circuit of Andalucia last night. Luckily I've get Jerez to look forward to at the beginning of March. I really enjoy the European events as I find they're much more relaxed than the UK ones, the weather and surroundings help too. As others have said, Portimao is a fantastic circuit and so is Mugello which I did last year. Both of those I would go back to.

The pace is definitely quicker on the Euro events which I think is down to the riders being more experienced than a lot in the UK who just do the odd day or two over the year.

Dan,

How many bikes are you bringing? If you want to share a double crate then let me know, although I'm guessing you're bringing the RSV4 and Monster?

Chris, perfect! Just bringing the one bike, the RSV4. Would love to share with you. We can keep the Duke snug as well with careful packing. Seeing as we are on the same flights so we can pack on departure together as well.

Dibble, Fleegle, Tim, ta for extra info. Very excited...

that is seriously fast. does he race? There was a young lad in the garage next to us with his dad who had some sponsors and raced a zx6 and he was doing mid 1:40s something like 1:45 or 6 and he was probably the quickest there. 1:38s is pretty much how fast the moto 2 lad was going so that is epicly fast. especially if with traffic. I have no idea how people do it. i thought i was about to die in the low 50s!

Yes...Joe Francis, he's only 18..... British Moto 3 champ in 2013 at the age of 15.... Now.Supersport 600 in BSB.....he did his fast laps on a clear track, but on used tyres...

When we were there Salom, and the Pons brothers went out at lunch time, and were cracking off consistent 1:35's

Hey tim85. Great write up. The boy with the grey ducati (1199) was me! Last session off. Ligaments in my left thumb are damaged and a big graze on my right arm :-( Walking wounded tho so all good.

Bike's not too bad. Fairings, levers, clutch cover and new wiring loom (or repairs). Landed on the cheap side of the bike and didn't roll fortunately.

Here's the video! https://vimeo.com/154473209

Agree with your comments on Cartagena. Day 1 was an eye opener!! Once you figure out where you're going it gets better, more fun and faster. Very physical tho!

Ouch for you and your wallet! Glad your relatively ok though buddy. Those gravel traps are way more nasty than they look. I ran out of petrol on the last session on the 2nd day and dropped into one to get off the track and it was tough work just trying to push my bike through that. Bike looked and sounded awesome though. Will you be going back at any point or will you try other places instead?

@Tim85 - Good write up. Couple of questions if you will! How many days before you have to load your bike up? Do they have designated pick up points? Do you have to be there when the truck gets back? Reason i ask is that i am going to Portimao in May with a mate and im wondering if we can stay on for a few days after to get some sun and spend a few nights out!

Cheers

which company are you going with? I'm off to jerez with NL and the bike drop is the Saturday before and pick up the saturday after the trackday. NL drop is usually at Swindon, with other pickups at extra cost (Donington, Oulton Park +others at cost)

Other firms are of course different locations!

I am going with NoLimits. Swindon is good for me as its just down the M4. If its Saturday to Saturday that works out perfect for me I think!

Good read of the write up of Tim's and good to hear your ok.

It may just be me but that front end looks all over the place for most of that lap? How much had you done on that front tyre?

Only asking as I nervous about crashing there myself now, cannot wait till May!

Just take enough tyres. It was probably one of the harshest tracks ive ridden on tyres, im generally quite gentle on tyres although on a 600. I took 1 scrub set of slicks and one fresh pair. After being a wally i put the fresh pair on after the first or second session on the first day. So a new set did me 2 full days basically with the 2nd day ruining a set of wets. I wouldnt of wanted another day out of them though and already felt small slips and slides from the rear that just took that edge of confidence away, usually a brand new set will last me three days of sun easily. Itl be mega in may when im assuming itl be at least mid 20s.

The tracks really good once you get used to it. Alot more elevation than youtube would suggest. That hill up to turn 1 looks like the mountain at cadwell from the pitwall.
