And today's commuting highlight is...
Discussion
Thankfully, I don't know what happened but the warning light went off for my ride home (and back in this morning), following this the speedo is now working more than normal!
It does still however display the occasional 0mph, typically after acceleration/higher rev's but now comes back to working quicker than it did previously but still of it's own accord

New Cross is an accident waiting to happen, hateful bottleneck with too many busses.
Wishing him a swift recovery.

Not wrong. Awful bit of road design..Wishing him a swift recovery.

I actually changed my commute to avoid Lewisham/OKR/New Cross - being punted off there once was enough and it was definitely going to happen again. This is Teapot's THIRD non-fault in a year.
Don't blame you. Wtf have they done with Lewisham? The roundabout was pretty awful, but this giant ? mark they've created is even worse as the lane transitions don't work and it's pretty lethal on a bike as people are crossing lanes everywhere.bgunn said:

Thing is I always find that junction worse in the evenings, the traffic from Catford turning toward Greenwich/Lee Green blocks all cars coming from New Cross and those heading into town - it turns into a solid gridlock!

Late leaving this morning and as soon as I stepped out it hammered down - heavy rain for my whole commute in today looks like the gear is going to take a hammering on the way home too. Only positive I can take is that I didn't waste my time last Sunday cleaning the bike - I had planned to but didn't get round to it Just the ride in this morning would have undone that effort
Did my first motorbike drift today. Coming off a roundabout, 2nd gear gentle throttle over a surface change from that yellow grippy surface onto normal tarmac and the rear wheel spun. I managed to keep it upright through sheer luck, bashed my wrist on the tank trying to 'steer' into it. Luckily I was only doing 20mph-ish, so wasnt leaning too far over. To everyone else it probably seemed like a complete non-event but I was scared stiff.

Don't know him well enough/for long enough to be able to answer that one, I'll have to ask him. It was just what he said in his video.
I note from looking at his Youtube channel he came off at least twice on his round the world trip on roads ( there might have been more but its gonna take a while to watch) - I was watching the texas one he said on that he failed to spot some gravel. Also I note on film of him binning it on the road in Japan. Though obviously plenty of miles without incident, though you can't blame anyone falling off on mud/gravel on bridgestone touring tyres and a bike either which are completely unsuited to those conditions. No one is perfect but 3 times off in London area in a year does highlight something - that its a different set of riding skills required to a 74k round the world trip thats for sure.

Well that was a soggy ride home last night.
That said, I am not so bothered about the rain or it being wet these days, it is just a fact of riding in the UK. What does get to me though in heavy rain or lots of standing water is the spray from some vehicles, RR Evoque's, some vans, big lorries etc all throw up vast amounts of spray in their wake which can be hard to see through.

Given a choice I'd avoid rain for bike riding but for commuting in the UK you don't have a choice so agreed. Rain doesn't really bother me as long as I can see - so I know what you mean about spray in heavy rain. Biggest thing for me is keeping the visor closed - water on the inside of the visor is irritating. Keeping the visor closed round town with a GT Air even with the best possible pinlock fitted in the rain is an interesting less than perfect non fogging experience - never had this with any other Shoei I've owned with either fog city or pinlocks. That said, I am not so bothered about the rain or it being wet these days, it is just a fact of riding in the UK. My gear was just about dry this morning - I built shelving above my combi boiler which lives in its own cupboard so it acts as a bike kit drying room when its not being used as an airing cupboard - its the only way I'd have remotely dry kit overnight.
My tyres whilst still good in the wet are now past their best wear wise, I'm in the final 1500 to 2000 max miles phase where they'll steadily get worse handling wise and particularly for stability on the crap london roads at low speeds
Currently commuting in the car as its an easy journey plus I have a passenger. Never fails to amaze me how considerate the car drivers are to the speed limit through Richmond Park compared to the Velo Vermin.
I nearly had the biggest laugh this morning when a deer shot across the road in front of a cyclist who not only was riding in excess of the 20mph (by a reasonable margin I'd guess) but he had his head down, so wouldn't have seen this happening until too late. There was only a foot or so in it........would have made my day.........and my sunday roasts for the next couple of months
