And today's commuting highlight is...

Somewhat naughtily went round the outside of a traffic island filtering up to temporary traffic lights this morning and got pulled over by the waiting Trafpol office I hadn't spotted.
Oh dear, I thought - I know that's a particularly unnecessary offence. I didn't know it was an automatic driving/riding without due care and attention. Luckily for me I was offered a rider awareness course in lieu of points so I gratefully accepted. I didn't know that was an option so I'll report back in due course.
Copper was thoroughly decent about it as I think he could I see I wasn't being reckless. It is hard to ride 100% inside the law in London all the time though...
Sounds like a decent enough bloke, shame to have been caught but it sounds like he was decent about it.Oh dear, I thought - I know that's a particularly unnecessary offence. As you say, hard to stay within the traffic laws 100% of the time, especially down heavily congested roads.

Oooh i do this a lot when there is a red light on the other side of the road. Noted!Oh dear, I thought - I know that's a particularly unnecessary offence. It happened coming from Fulham towards West Brompton station where there are some temporary roadworks just before the bridge. It was silly of me as I know there is a police station there by what was the back entrance to Earls Court exhibition centre.
The copper said he was beeped by a scooter going round the island himself yesterday when he was on foot so he set himself up today to catch people and spread a bit of awareness. Fair enough.
He also mentioned a discount code of GEN18 when booking BIkesafe to get £20 off. I did it years ago so may sign up again as it doesn't hurt to get someone to assess your riding from time to time and they need to keep filling the courses to keep the funding going I should think.

Yup. Bearing in mind all traffic islands carry a blue "Keep left" sign on them, going to the right (ie. on the offside) implies you didn't see the sign which is always classed as DWDCA.
Presumably that means if the sign is missing, then anything goes? Just wondering,as they're sometimes missing.wjb said:

My mates an ex-traffic cop, and when it comes to things like this he always says;"Would you do it on your test?"

Freezing ride in, although I was bloody lucky!
Woke up this morning after having a vivid dream about being banned for 3 months for speeding, don't ask me why.......
1/2 hour later and I'm riding to work, taking it easy given the cold and frost. I get to the small section of DC that I normally open it up a little on, only I have a sixth sense feeling about the single round headlight and high vis top of the bike behind me, was quite a way back with only the headlight really visible in my mirror given the dark, so decide not to. I pull up to the lights at the end of the DC stretch and the bike that was behind pulls up next to me, a fully marked biker trafpol......
Thank fk for that!

I was all prepped to ride in today after working at home yesterday (that really is the best commute) and then remembered have a work mate's leaving drinks tonight.
I can stomach the tube today for this reason alone.. but it seriously wasn't pleasant packed in like sardines and its reminded me again that it would drive me crazy having to do this it daily.

So what are the lottery numbers for the weekend? Woke up this morning after having a vivid dream about being banned for 3 months for speeding, don't ask me why.......

Last time I got a talking to by a bike cop a few years ago I was let off, as the speed limit on the road had reduced from 10+ years of me using it as a 30 to a 20.
Nice ride in today, no wind or rain, was quite warm too!

It knocks me sick thinking about that awful rush hour journey on the district/central line I used to do 15 odd years ago, bet it hasn't improved either.I can stomach the tube today for this reason alone.. but it seriously wasn't pleasant packed in like sardines and its reminded me again that it would drive me crazy having to do this it daily.

I've been having to take the train in while I wait for my new bike to be delivered (mine - RAWRR's old one) ended up as a CAT-B from the collision in December. Train has been delayed every single journey and Jubilee line is sardine city. Hating it.sjtscott said:

My highlight were 50% heated gloves this morning were great. Some scooter riders without L plates on my route in do seem to really take offence at being passed.. bloke this morning did a full round the outside outbraking manoeuvre on hatching coming up to a set of lights to try to get back past me. He only stayed ahead by offsiding the traffic lights at that pelican crossing island which as we've discussed will get you in serious trouble IF there were any cops about. Oh well.
My most interesting moment watching the guy ahead of me plodding away on his GS turning left like me to head south over southwark bridge this morning and purposely putting his left foot down (nice converse trainers) while taking the corner bolt upright following a truck at about 10mph. Having then spotted me did frankly a suicidal overtake of the truck and only just made it through given solid stationary traffic heading north just as the segregated cycle lane starts on the bridge. Extremely odd riding.
