Comparatively much warmer this morning no ice around and at least no rain today - traffic still heavy this morning despite half term.

Last nights journey home wasn't pleasant even for a 7 miles journey from Central Zone1 to Zone 2 East in London.
Highlight last night wondering why a coach was straddling the centre line crawling along holding all traffic up on the highway near the wapping turnings
with its hazards on. As I carefully filtered past I spotted a dog was loose and running along on the inside lane and the driver was clearly protecting it from being taken out, dark and heavy rain absolute certainty with some of the terrible driving and lack of observation that would happen. The police were close by but causing a hazed on the opposite side of the road as they'd clearly pulled someone over for **** driving but they wern't paying any attention to this going on.

Freezing ride in, although I was bloody lucky!

Woke up this morning after having a vivid dream about being banned for 3 months for speeding, don't ask me why.......

1/2 hour later and I'm riding to work, taking it easy given the cold and frost. I get to the small section of DC that I normally open it up a little on, only I have a sixth sense feeling about the single round headlight and high vis top of the bike behind me, was quite a way back with only the headlight really visible in my mirror given the dark, so decide not to. I pull up to the lights at the end of the DC stretch and the bike that was behind pulls up next to me, a fully marked biker trafpol......

Thank fk for that!
Surely your pile of scrap wouldn't go fast enough to get you in trouble anyway, would it?

It almost felt like spring on the ride home tonight, I can't wait for it to warm up properly.

Yep, what a difference a day makes! 8-9 degrees, 80% dry roads, still quite a bit of light in the sky at gone 6pm, what's the hell is happening?! eeklaugh

This morning's highlight was a train cancelled at 6:15am "due to an act of vandalism". Another 15min on my commute, exactly what I wanted when I have to be in at 7, then do a normal day's work.

And I was only on the train because I found this while cleaning my chain:

Another cheek-clencher of a ride in this morning! There is a bit of country road where water runs off from fields & always turns to sheet ice, so I was aware of it & slowed down accordingly. However, due to recent rain, there was another patch further along the road which I hadn't anticipated & looked like a layer of salt where the gritter may have vomited up a bit extra. But no.... A nice layer of slush on black ice!!! yikes
I have no idea how I didn't come off!

Well it's 1615 on a Friday and I finish at half past. Sun is still out, roads are dry and I am biking home. Looking forward to it for the first time in ages. I'm so over winter

Today's commuting high light was working from home so I didn't have to F***ing do it. Fed up with it. I'm asking my old boss for my old job back on Monday.

I tried making it better by stopping and taking photos, but 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours a day in the car, no energy or time to do things I enjoy (with or without the children) and the children saying I'm not fun anymore since starting a new job last year mean enough is enough. Lots of other reasons as well.

......and relax.

Still, here is one of the nicer photos I have got out of it.

Oh, I appear to have wandered into the Biker Banter bit, apologies for that, though in justification I have spent the last week wondering whether I can justify giving in to a 20 year old craving for an NC 30.

It's 44 miles to work, would that trash a 400 sports type bike in a short space of time? I'm only 5'4" tall so being cramped on it isn't an issue, in fact it's one of the reasons I'd go for a smaller bike like the NC 30.

Commuting on that would be a proper shame. Too nice to trash in traffic! & that's a long old commute which will rack up some serious mileage....

Loverly post half term traffic and rain to greet us London commuters this morning.
Highlights having to weave round a very very cautious and slowly ridden polite vest wearer who was doing his best to mobile road block the other bikers despite having a whole lane to himself and then having easily caught him up being held up by a virgin bikes FJR1300 with full panniers they always use, he spotted me and simply refused to let me through the gap I could easily fit though.. oh well once the traffic started moving again a couple of mins later you can't say these guys don't know how to ride and I turned to cross the river about half a mile up the road anyway as he blasted away through towards the Blackfriars underpass.

As I was cleaning the cars yesterday I treated the banger bike to a brief blast with the jet wash, didn't start too well this morning however but was fine once moving

I also re-attached the hanging indicator with an assortment of cable ties and fully cleaned/re-lubed the chain.

I left the bike in the garage all last week and used four wheels - absolute breeze thanks to half term.

Back on the bike today and greeted with rain and the usual chaos. Nice to be back on the bike though.

Anyone elses bike leave the garage clean today and arrive coated in a thick coat of white crusty mess?

Yeah, that wasn't even the worst of it....

Thankfully the bike itself is no longer leaking oil following fitting the new gasket a few months back, this was just the residue that was left all over the inside/outside of the fairing coming off (I hope)

Also the first gear on those was massively tall. Plenty of 300cc type bikes around that would do the job or if you can get comfortable on them, one of the 650cc twins (SV,CB etc). When dealing with a largish daily mileage I try and go for the largest engine that I can which I always think will be able to handle the miles better.
