And today's commuting highlight is...
Discussion
Not so much a commuting highlight but with only one day of holiday allowance remaining for this year I decided to gamble and book my Mod 1 and 2 for the same day. I'm pleased to report that I passed both first time today, the L plates are officially off and I can start shopping around for a new commuter bike.

Superb, and happy shopping .... next stop a 'what bike' thread, we love spending other peoples money !!!Headache.
Fitted a new screen before leaving work yesterday to try and remove the annoying buffeting over 60mph.
Made everything worse, which also meant the ride in this morning was equally as bad as a I left the standard screen in the office.
Ordered one of those MRA X-Creen things as the barn door approach wasn't suitable.

Well after the carnage of yesterday M4 onto the M25 in the morning and then the M4 itself on the way home, this morning was an easy run in, looks like it might be a bit damp on the way home though.
I have Road 5's on the VFR now and I really, really rate them.
Dakkon you on a red VFR ?? I pass one most mornings near the M4/M25, heading eastbound into London ....I have Road 5's on the VFR now and I really, really rate them.

Foggy this morning so naturally the standard of driving drops.
Those people that give a single flash of the indicator as they've already moved and crossed the central line.
Those people that don't even bother indicating and dart across lanes.
A short but frustrating commute this morning.
ALMOST time to chuck the clear visor on - few weeks left I think.

I don't miss riding in heavy fog like today - I was cycling and its still better than being on the motorbike. Those people that give a single flash of the indicator as they've already moved and crossed the central line.

I invested in light reactive pinlock on a second OE clear visor (not cheap but worth it) which goes fully clear in limited light conditions its a good halfway house this time of year. Having a GT air I have the pop down sun visor which truely means I can run all year with a clear visor and cope with all light conditions. Best thing is I get an extra dark visor when the proper strong sun is out having the pinlock and pop down sun visor deployed. Put to very good use this summer.
Heading towards Leeds on the M1 this morning and the overhead gantries lit up saying obstruction in Lane 3. Traffic all moves into Lane 1 and Lane 2 and comes to a standstill. I filter to the front and there's a traffic agency car bringing the motorway to a standstill to retrieve a stranded vehicle in the central reservation.
Engine off, waited there for 5 minutes or so while they freewheeled it over to the hard shoulder (downhill stretch, fortunately!). When it came time for the traffic officer to release the traffic again I had a huge stretch of empty three-lane M1 in front of me.
Would have been rude not to give it death, I *may* have exceeded the speed limit a touch.

That is a fantastic feeling!Engine off, waited there for 5 minutes or so while they freewheeled it over to the hard shoulder (downhill stretch, fortunately!). When it came time for the traffic officer to release the traffic again I had a huge stretch of empty three-lane M1 in front of me.

It’s even better when a few bikes have filtered to the front and one is able to properly compare the respective performance figures of the various machines lined up on the starting grid (hypothetically officer)...
Encountered a couple of "I can go fast in a straight line, I can't filter though" chaps today. I was doing around seventy-fifteen on the motorway and Mr GS hammered past me, then slowed right up and wobbled for some simple filtering after the motorway stopped. Then, I'm doing 50 (ish) through the Blackwall average speed stretch only for Mr Small Imitation Harley to piss past me, and then brake and put his feet down every 20 yards in the filter, in gaps you could have got a pair of RTs side by side through.
We're all different, I get that, but when there's a line of bikes behind you, move TF over. Oh, but that would require checking your mirrors, I guess.

Did my good deed, biker down in new x on my way this morning - pedestrian coming from between cars. He was fine but the bike was a bit scuffed up.
Got my karma though...accidentally left my bag unzipped for the ride home...new (but cheap) waterproof trousers are now MIA as well as a cheap primarni top...FFS

Got stuck behind about 4 bikes all wobbling around behind a road sweeping lorry through New Cross then 1 of the scooters seemed to get annoyed that I'd blasted past them all, he blasted back past me at the lights to join OKR & his top box popped open over a bump a load of paperwork flew out
Chilly with summer gloves this morning, but bearable for the 6 mile commute.
Low-light of the commute was a total tt on a Suzuki GSR750, 61 plate (I think???), black/red finish, with loud exhaust; young chap in full leathers & backpack. He roared up next to me at a pedestrian crossing, & as soon as the lights went green, roared off under full acceleration. All well & good, apart from screaming past 3 cars & then a bus on the wrong side of the double white lines, round a blind corner..... I hope he doesn't die in a head-on anytime soon, but if you're reading, mate, slow it down a bit for your own sake!!

Was swithering this morning - bike or car. Was pouring down and blowing a hoolie. Ended up taking bike after other half tried to persuade me into the car. Flood waters (felt chuffed going through in my Adv Bike - sad!), 30mph+ cross winds over the moor, and around 6miles of stationary traffic. Right call! On another thread someone called out what the Africa Twin is like in winds - solid as a rock. Even with a top box.
