New rear tyre and fresh MOT on my 390 Duke on Friday, so typically this morning its battery was flat and it wouldn't start. Must have a drain somewhere - investigation tonight. It fried a rectifier/regulator this time last year when I broke out my electric vest after it turned a bit chilly but I thought I'd fixed the electrical leakage - it looks like the saga will be ongoing.

I've hardly used it this year - an old Honda 400/4 was doing the commuting but I don't really want to get that wet....

So pull out the emergency back up motorcycle:

It's had a little dribble at the excitement of being a front line commuting steed as you can see...
Very nice, love a classic

M25 is shut between J28 and J27.

The A13 was also horrible into London. Saw 3 separate incidents on the A13 as well all involving bikes with emergency services in attendance. Hope all involved are OK!

Horrible fog around 7.30am. Bike starting to get covered in slime from damp roads. I'm not sure I can cope with another winter.....

Rode to work yesterday in the cold and pouring rain - a horrible shock after three sunny weeks on my honeymoon weeping

Feels to me like it's time for the Monster 1200R to be washed, waxed, plugged into a trickle charger and put under a cover in the garage for another winter. The trusty 168,000 mile Mondeo will now be reinstated to cold dark and wet commuting duty, heated seats here we come.

Fair weather rider and proud of it biggrin

Think most of us would take the car in the rain and cold if it was practical. I just cant waste 2-4 hours of my day in traffic.

Going for some TKC70's for my Africa Twin this year. Bring on the snow

I spent Sunday training it to Bournemouth to pick up my winter ride. It's a Honda...civic. I wouldn't class myself as a Fair Weather rider but I guess I am these days. The salt and crap ate my brakes in winter 2016 so I bought a stbox last year and I've done the same this year.

1998 1.6 auto. Full MDSH from new. Lovely Balmoral Green. pics to follow if you like.

Hitting a grouse at a fairly reasonable speed.

For the past couple of weeks they have been on a suicide mission along the B1257 around the Bilsdale area. I've so far managed to Miss them each morning and night, but last night one of them managed to get me.

Hit the clutch lever and rotated that slightly around, bounces off the wing mirror and finally in to my chest with feathers, blood and sh*t everywhere.
I stayed on the bike but had to pull over and get my breath back as it properly knocked it out of me.

So glad it hit the clutch lever though and wasn't on the other side of the bike otherwise it would have been a very different situation.

I think that brings my tally of birdstrikes for the year up to 3 now?

Having said all that, I rode in this morning and it was warm and dry

Was nice and dry until Reading and then spray galore. Luckily my replacement Dane GoreTex Pro gear is holding up at the moment. Waiting for a good rain shower to put it through its paces properly,

Going through the usual pain of getting my respro foggy mask to fit properly again so my glasses don't fog up. Apart from that enjoying the commute on the new 1190. Abs is very reassuring, not had that before.

Witnessed a nasty T bone yesterday morning on the A20 at Eltham Road. Lovely Harley wiped out by an uber taxi turning right across a bus lane. Was only admiring the Harley at the previous set of lights.

Stopped to see if the guy was ok and gave my number. Poor dude as proper irate at the taxi driver as most of us would be. Made sure he was ok but didnt really know what to do..? Any tips? Kind of.. You ok mate? Yup, Do you need an ambulance or police? Nope, well here's my number and off I went, felt like a bit of a prick tbh. Obviously would have stayed with him if he was in any way injured.

His insurance has already been in contact and I text him later to see if he was ok.

Hope it wasn't anyone in here frown

Heading in or out of London ? What you on will keep an eye out smile Unless you're the twunt on the GS with death star lights that refuses to use his mirrors and filters like he needs a whole lane to progress in .....

Clobbered a car mirror and bent it back on itself (no damage) in L2 with my left fist whilst filtering past a twunt who was too far left in L3. I'm fked off at his lane positioning but ultimately it was my fault for getting the gap wrong. To make matters worse, I got into a fluster and fking stalled it. I was swearing very loudly at myself inside my helmet for the next half a mile. Really annoyed with myself, it's the first time I've done it. Really put me off my stride for the rest of the journey. It's funny how decent filtering and safe progress requires you to be cool and calm, and the point at which you start getting a bit frantic it all comes crashing down rather unceremoniously. I had to have a word with myself.

Regained the composure for the journey home though and I'll try and draw a line under it and move on. Straight back on the horse, so to speak.

On the A40 today into town riding in L2 (in the middle of the lane, not filtering). Traffic is steadily moving and cars pretty close together. I notice the crappy Vauxhall people carrier in L1 start moving into my lane without indicating and there's cars in front and behind me so I don't have anywhere to go. I give a double beep of the horn and no response, driver keeps moving over. One last long toot and still nothing so I'm left with no choice but to shift over onto the lines between L2 and L3 until there's a gap big enough to move fully over into L3. I look over at the driver to see WTF they were thinking and they are literally head down into their lap texting! Traveling at about 40mph in 3 lanes of moving traffic! There really are some idiots out there.

New gloves for the first time in 3 years this morning, urgh! Had forgotten how it's like riding with your hands tightly strapped and anaesthetised. Today's highlight, however, was, after a white van almost pulled into my lane whilst alongside but then didn't, following a slightly panicked beep&brake, the driver actually held his hand up in apology, as did I in acknowledgement, and we both went on our merry way. If only it was always like this...

A full on frost this morning and ice particles forming on the visor at a couple of points in the journey too.
My meat and 2 veg have yet to make a reappearance.

Managed to take out a pheasant too, It clobbered my right boot and I have a couple of feathers still stuck between the toe slider and the boot.
