Took the car to the office with the ambition of using public transport to my various meetings throughout the day. Driving to work was fine and even found a reasonably priced underground carpark nearby but TfL has gone into overdrive and severe delays on all the lines I needed to use. Drove to 2/4 meetings and postponed the others. Not a single sign of snow in central either so wishing I rode in. At least I got to listen to some music and be warm for a change.

Pulled up to my usual spot this morning, reached into my pocket for the key to my padlock, and.....it's snapped in half. Bugger. I have no idea how that happened. I WFHd yesterday but used the lock on Tuesday as normal.

So my bike is now sat on the street with just a steering lock for company, as I only carry one lock with me. Hope it lasts the day out.

I don't even know whether the snapped off part is in the lock or not although I'd surely have noticed if it had done that when I last unlocked it. I have a spare key at home, but if the snapped bit is in the lock I'll have to find a bike thief and ask him nicely to cut the lock off the chain for me.

You anywhere near Soho/West End? Happy to lock it to mine? I have a disc lock you can use if not.

Nice commutes into Glasgow over the last few days, albeit torrential on the way home one night.

Interestingly, been passed twice by a chap on what looks like an ex-cop Honda. First time he appeared literally our of no-where (I was questioning my observation skills). He came right up behind me (and motorway limit), so I let him passed - he zoomed off with no acknowledgement and I soon understood why I hadn't seen him approaching in my mirror - he very quickly filled the gap I've been leaving and just swung in to the nearside lane, zoomed past, and on he went, undertaking about 4 cars then back into lane 2.

This morning he undertook me and a line of cars (that had moved over ready for a busy on-slip), and proceeded to filter through the nicely moving traffic at over 60mph.Mentioned to other half who drive and he said the guy does it all the time, just flies through the traffic whatever way suits. Hmmmm.....!!

I was commuting home on the A40 out of town and without going at silly speeds I was making really good progress. Came across a few bikers who were swift to pull in to let me through and I was just thinking in my head that I was really in the zone and filtering well when I heard THUD, quickly realised I'd clipped the mirror on the Iveco van I'd passed banghead no harm done so I put a hand up to apologise and went on my way. And then a mile up the road I look in my mirror to see this rapidly approaching ball of crazy flashing white light. This maniac on a suicide mission was filtering on a scooter at absolute warp speed with what looked like every high powered flashing bicycle light attached to the front, it was blinding yikes not seen him before and I hope I don't again, my retinas are still recovering!

I had two spare keys at home and the broken bit wasn't stuck in the lock so we're back in business thumbup

New'ish Africa Twin with full on lunch boxes and roof box (sorry I mean top box) fitted who with all that luggage was making great progress down the M4 / A4 .. was getting through gaps I wouldn't have tried with that much luggage .. fair play to him ...

Also got all wistful when I came across what I think was a VFR, rider in a Limited Edition Kagayama rep Shoei lid in the rare red/white, got all wistful as miss my one after I destroyed it highsiding in Valencia ... nice lid fella ...

Was abroad all last week in 23-25 degrees.

Couldn't bring myself to ride in this morning - was frosty and looked cold.

Back on the bike tomorrow.

Nice to be back on the bike today. No dramas.

Fog seemed to roll in as I arrived in the office

Dropped it doing a u-turn in a car parking space on a hill. Misjudged the steepness, put my foot down and the floor wasn't there. Few small scratches but otherwise ok. Hugely helpful guy stopped to help me pick it up. 1190s are bloody heavy when on a hill and wheels are higher than the bars.

Other than that it was a nice ride in.

That sucks, scratches add character i'd say.

Or just add one more excuse for a new bike ;-)

Glad it wasn't more serious Dern ...

Todays highlight, had ridiculous flatulance all the way in .... was quite satisfying being allowed to wantonly release ....

I've only just got this one... d'oh.

On closer inspection at lunch I've scratched a couple of the non-painted panels which I'll leave for now but can be replaced if I can be bothered. I've smashed a handguard which meant that I didn't break the brake lever so it's all perfectly rideable. Ordered some new handguards and will fix these with cable ties for this week.

Could have been worse.
