And today's commuting highlight is...

People using their phones whilst driving has been the absolute bane of my life recently, I think it's a huge contributing cause of the increase in congestion. I've lost count of the number of people watching TV on their phones whilst driving
Yeah, it's not being taken seriously at all. It's like drink driving was 30yrs ago, everyone knows it's a bit naughty but there's no shame or penalty in being caught. Needs a bit of zero tolerance, I think. Points and fine first time, 3 month ban second time, prison or long ban after that. kiethton said:
The other one (was in the car following this cretin thankfully) is people driving around, with their phone/ipad in the middle of the windscreen (visible to me behind) while watching Netflix....
Probably whilst smoking a nice big joint. I swear if I had a drug test on arriving at work most days I’d fail it.Today's highlight was actually getting out on the bike - I'd estimate I've not ridden it since early November, other than to brim the tank at the local Tesco over Christmas. Warm weather (Met Office reckoned 19C!) meant I was able to stick my summer jeans and boots on.
In previous years I've ridden through winter, but WFH, lockdown and current workload meant mine was parked up for the duration.

Thread has been quiet for a while so thought I'd pop in a post about my interesting commute yesterday:
First off, it was raosting bloody hot, then crusiing down the motorway at around 75-80 my vision is suddenly dominated by something yellow/black and angry - not only is the fekker under my visor, but under my glasses too sitting between my eye and the lens. After the initial shock, I pulled over at the next services (less than 2 miles fortunately) and managed to get the little bastage out without any stings despite being stupidly sweaty in the heat. Started back up, and the low fuel light and fuel gauge are spazzing out flashing like its a 90's field rave as they had lost signal from the sender unit - had that the whole way home, and then, at home, I noticed oil misting around one of the top rocker gaskets - so I think that has popped a slight leak.
I can't bring myself to look at it today and don;t need to commute until Tuesday, so I'm thinking that can be the weekends problem trying to sort thsoe bits out!

Remember it's a Bank Holiday on Monday if you think you might need parts, etc.First off, it was raosting bloody hot, then crusiing down the motorway at around 75-80 my vision is suddenly dominated by something yellow/black and angry - not only is the fekker under my visor, but under my glasses too sitting between my eye and the lens. Been in the office ~3 days a week so am back on the bike
More importantly the Mrs now has a job just down the road so when I have been going in she's been on the back most of the time! All likely to be fairly temporary as we'll be moving home in a few weeks and the bike will need to be stored at work as we do so.

Cheers - I've had a look and can get gaskets pretty easily even on Sunday afternoon, however I'm leaning more towards the folliowing plan of action:First - cleaning up connections and checking for shorts for the fuel pump sender issue; it's more annoying than anything else since I'm so used to not having one that I do the trip meter method of knowing when to fill up.
As for the possible gasket leak - I'm thinking that I will just give the bike a complete (and months overdue) thorough clean and keeping an eye on the gasket for misting / crud build up over the next few rides. Fortunately it's an air cooled v-twin so no risk of polluting coolantliquid etc. if it IS leaking and does go south fast. I did have a quick check of the oil level this morning and it's not burning oil and the level is the same as when I did the change - even though theres 4K on that oil now (I change engine and primary every 5K pretty religiously due to riding it harder than most HD riders).
Plus I'm only having to commute on Tuesday next week so I've got plenty of time to get bits done if more is needed.

I can't bring myself to go to the office in Westminster.
Mate you've missed some fun in Westminster lately thanks to XR, not as bad as last time but I did heard some of them moaning the other day because someone had jumped in front of a tube closing the district/circle line - went along the lines of "going to be late home thanks to someone else's selfish actions" ... because that isn't what most of these protestors do to those of us who work in Westminster every time they decide there is something to protest about DirtyHarley said:

Makes my blood boil, that kind of comment. Late home doesn't really compare to so miserable you've decided to be dead, or to the mental trauma that driver will now be suffering. Selfish s. Hope your fault finding is successful and doesn't end up costing you too much!Pothole said:

Same, unfortunately it's a fairly common viewpoint in London - just bloody glad I don't have to live up there or get public transport too often!Fault finding has gone amazingly nowhere on the electrical front - couldn't replicate the issue with a quick ride, but I have checked all the cables I can get to and cleaned up all the connections and fuses. So just have to see.
The gasket looks OK after a complete clean up of the bike (forgot how shiney my bike looks with all that chrome when it's not under layers of ACF50 and filth!) but will keep an eye on after the next few rides.

I know. I pulled my own sister up on something similar a few years ago! Turned out it was someone running between platforms not trying to kill themselves but we didn't know that at the time! Can definitely tell that people are heading back to London offices this week, plus it being a pretty nice warm clear day - ride in was fine, although busier than usual (plus I left home 30mins later than normal due to a key aprt of my route having overnight closures until 0600) - however the ride home was a bloody nightmare of people unable to filter, no shoulder checks, driving with an indicator going for a good 3+ miles, not moving over for faster filterers and general brain out riding. I love seeing other bikers out and about, but sometimes I really hate other bikers!
No real drama today other than a tttish cyclist that ran three consecutive red lights and got offended when i called him a prick as at the 2nd set he nearly wiped out a lady pushing a pram .....
Magically at the next set of lights (which I reached first) he did stop but wouldn't make eye contact !!!

Had to get from Mayfair to Brands Hatch this evening.
What a sh*t journey that is. The A2 is a horrible road through a horrible part of the world (might not be that bad to be fair, I’ve just had a moderately cr*p day).
Waste of time too. My daft mate booked us into inters/fast so I did one session and thought ‘fk that I’m gonna cause some poor f**ker to crash’.

I do the A2/M2 every single day - its not bad when everything is running ok... but a single accident or incident snarls it up something terrible, plus the 'elephant racing' lorries are a daily occurance that I generally filter through. Today I did the M20 to Ashford and then backroads for the final leg home instead as google traffic was showing a big block of red/black on the A2 following two accidents within a mile or two of each other.Although for brands I guess you went from London area following the A2 down to the darenth interchange and then did either back roads or M25/M20? That stretch of the A2 is particularly stty and horrible for traffic, roadworks, and potholes!
