Many, many years ago commuting to Slough from South London I had this with the police. They told me at the lights at the roundabout at Fullers Brewery to just keep up...parting of the waves effect was superb!

That's brilliant. Love that.

I have been known to tail an ambulance through the traffic once or twice.

I'm in Glasgow now where nobody expects you to filter and I've had folk swerve at me as they think it's illegal. Humph. Even the Uber Eats / Deliveroo scooters just sit in the traffic here.
5 years commuting in London and I've now moved to Cornwall where riders also just sit in traffic! Can't comprehend it.

Yep can't understand it either, I've been commuting into London for 30 odd years on the bike and wouldn't sit in the traffic unless I was feeling especially lazy that day. I frequently come across the police motorcyclists as my commute takes me up the A1 from central London, they used to do a load of training around Hendon, not sure that they are based there now. Always found them very agreeable with filtering had one the other night told me to go for it and he would follow if he could get through with his panniers!

Must be a different Glasgow to me..I filter 20 odd miles into work most days without issues.. along A roads, motorways, stop/start town traffic.

I have noticed a big increase in 125cc riders sitting in traffic though, think I mentioned it on this very thread.. seems a bit odd and I actually wondered if that's how they are being taught these days.. my teaching with the blood bikes is long behind me now.

Todays commuting highlight, diesel on the road and dropping the bike!

Fark! First time dropping it thankfully very low speed as pulling out of junction, damage to bike is very minimal with a cover plate on the exhaust taking the brunt of the damage.

Happy Monday everyone biggrin

Damn! Still, as long as you are OK then that's all that really matters.

Had to do some work on one of my colo's at an Equinix site earlier, so took the ZZR1400 for it's first spin of the year as a pre-MoT run.

Felt like ages since I'd been on a bike; weather wasn't terrible and was enjoyable.

Got to the site, switched the bike off so security could hear me on the intercom, gate started to open and... battery flat. Thankfully the bike spaces are right next to the gate so scooted it in and parked up.

Went in to do my two hours task. Came back out 10 hours later laugh expecting to have to run to Halfords to grab a battery, or worse call the AA but she started right back up.

Charging system is putting out enough voltage, but the battery is dropping off quickly, especially under electrical load whilst not charging so need to grab a new battery before the MoT.

Had to be in Westminster for 6.30am today.

Today's commuting highlight was getting in from Maidstone in exactly 50 mins door to door. A land speed record.

What a difference leaving a couple of hours earlier than normal and getting a lucky run on the traffic lights.

Cool story bra.

Maryhill Road? M8 is OK but Maryhill Road is an issue. I think the roadworks at Queen Margaret Drive have given folk the rage. Car drivers just aren't as expectant of bikes as London.

I used to get folk filtering on CBTs when I was an instructor. I suspect a lot of the self employed delivery riders haven't been near a training school...or it is indeed how they were taught

Oooft, serves you right for being that side of town! hehe

Haven't ever noticed it there to be honest.. not sure how long you've been in Glasgow but a few bike shops were up that neck of the woods, so I spent a lot of time there... and there used to be plenty of bikes flying about, so drivers should be used to us...

Not saying it's to happening to you obviously.. just a shame as it never used to be bad.. hopefully more bikes out will help now the weather is getting better...

Some of my early Covid commutes into Central London were similarly rapid.

I normally aim to be at my desk in Holborn for 7:00am. Two or three minutes either way in the time I leave the house can make a 10 minute difference in arrival time, it's right on the cusp of free flowing traffic and it helps that this week is half term.

Very much this, fastest so far for my S-Croydon - Bank commute is 32 minutes, my record from Beckenam was 19......only been doing the latter for 9 months though

I also had a similar game going from Sutton to Fulham. Fastest ever was 27 minutes. Average was about probably somewhere between 37-42 minutes.

I'm back commuting on a bike! Ok, granted not everyday as I'm a builder but if my tools are on site and I won't need my van then I can take the bike. And what a commute it is, went to St Ives the other day as my business partner was able to bring all the gear we needed.

Come back to Glasgow after years down south, now in Milngavie. Great Western Road used to have a lot of bike shops variously - J&S and Infinity are still there.

Managed to fall over twice today!

First time was just clumsiness and stupidity, though I’d like to pretend there was some black ice/diesel/gravel laid out to sabotage me. Had to be a junction going downhill too, so I can officially confirm that the XR is a little heavier than my MT10 when it comes to lifting it up….

Second tumble was on foot walking from the bike to the office, just slipped on the pavement, damaged pride but not much else.

Tw*t!

Ouch sorry to hear that.

It was mentally busy today. Busiest I've seen it in years. A20 from the M25 was slow as people turning off at St Mary Cray and then all the way down to Kidbrooke.

Old Kent Road was comical. I realise now that the super adventure is wide and my appetite to filter in between busses and artics is small these days. Didn't stop some suicidal scooterists trying their luck only to get stuck half way down.

Ditto. Bike on centre stand, I rock if forward to lean it onto the side stand but the bike slipped away, away from me. It fell over. I was mortified thinking the damage the damage! A bloke came running out of Chrysalis Lifestyle & Fitness in Hale. He didn't even pause, went straight round to the opposite side and heaved the bike upright.

Not a single scratch, not one ANYWHERE on the bike.

Top bloke, if your in the area- put some business his way.
