Surely it doesn't cost 4k a year if you use insurance?
Unsurprisingly, after the first four thefts, no-one was keen to offer any more than TPO.

Sorry, I didn't mean live elsewhere and work in London. I meant just not be near London at all...!
But each to their own.
In my case, I'd happily move if I could find a job paying half what my London one does, and the same with the wife. That's not going to happen, though.

Sad to see they finally got it.. You did almost everything you could apart from try to find another place to park it. Sadly it will now be part of the nice high end bike nicking crews toolset, plate removed.

I saw two of those scrotes on the highway the other week running a red at junction to wapping two up on reg plate less tmax, they turned against the traffic flow and it was around 8am I guess they were on the early morning scout out for the summer bikers leaving their flat car parks frown

Genuine question.
What sort of money does living in st require?
I make enough to be comfortable with my outgoings, pay an ex wife and bail out my kids on an uncomfortably regular basis, but really?
No-one has ever tried to nick either of my bikes or my car.
You could not bribe me to live in such conditions.

Didn't mean it to come across as it did, but the question stands.
Why the fk would people continue to live in the conditions described here?
If 2 kids were using an angle grinder to steal bikes around here there would be absolute uproar, they would certainly be challenged by onlookers.
Does it not seem a bit odd that someone can spend a lot of money on security which is bypassed by cutting down the post he has locked his bike to?

Your profile states you are from Cheshire. You have Liverpool and Manchester on your doorstep. Do you really think it's not happening there?

Yes I am from Cheshire, Never seen this behavior, or it's apparent tolerance in Manchester or Liverpool,
Currently residing in Stroud and again no tolerance for this sort of behaviour.
In fact I can't think of any of the places I have lived in tolerating this kind of behaviour,

I'm not singling you out, but it's very naive to think this is only happening London. It may be more publicised in London, but then the population is rather higher than the Likes of Liverpool. Manchester and Stroud

The difference is that it is not tolerated, last year some ahole tried to steal my bike. It happens.
He was chased off by someone who didn't at the time know me but who I've bought a few pints since.
If I were to see some scrote cutting a padlock and chain off a bike I would engage, possibly they had lost their keys, London IME lacks empathy, IE if it aint yours why protect it.

Saw some tw@ts just like these guys on the M1 Southbound last Saturday. J10 > J9 is around a mile long and they took over the shoulder and lane 1 (of 4) and started doing wheelies and stunts - they had 3x bikes like these and a quad bike. They exited at J9 and disappeared, crafty little gits.

But I don't live in st. I live in a beautiful flat on the waterfront, in one of the world's great cities, with a selection of restaurants, galleries, museums and theatres the equal of anywhere on Earth.

Obviously I could live in Cheshire if I wanted, but I really don't want to.

And of course no-one's tried to nick your bike. If I had one of those no-one would try's to nick it here either...

The problem is, that the scumbags live there too, so it aint all that and never will be, sadly.

Very sad seeing the post cut like that frown.
The Tmax is a great scooter and faster than many bikes, which is why it's one of the top targets for theft.

Top for London theft IIRC is Tmax and Vespa.

Like posters before said, avoid anything nice and anything scooter, although it may be worth buying an older SYM 300: many people think it's a Chinese stter but quality wise it's above most Japanese. Then add some wrap and on top add gaffer tape like you have stuck the plastics back together.

Else if you want a bike, avoid 125s (too popular for leaner thieves) and go for some dull Honda or something.

A third alternate is an electric bicycle, that you can wheel into your house/flat. Careful when charging the battery that it doesn't burn the place down: extension lead out of the window may be the best way there. But an e-bike has powers in London, especially if you can charge it at work, there's no insurance (needed), no number plate and you can use it over foot bridges etc that you'd not get away with in a powered vehicle.

Gutted for you frown

it almost seems like they saw your bike as a challenge after so many attempts.

I commute on a 100cc scooter worth about £500 and i have still had two attempts on it. They broke the ignition barell and steering lock but gave up - they stole the £15 cover instead... Takes the piss as mine is the only one with security on the estate! I'm glad to be moving!

Nothing is safe. They are only going to smash it up / abandon / burn it when they are finished theiving so it doesnt matter what state its in or what its worth.
