So went for a ride on a mt10 today, it was only 6 miles old.

Its ruddy quick, proper grunty feeling. I had to be careful as the brakes and tyres had never been used under the bikes power.

Plus points....

Its quick

Made a great noise

Fueled really nice

Rider modes did alter how the bike felt

handled well

Amazing wind protection even upto 140mph closed road speeds

Suspension felt nice

Negative points....

I didn't like some of the casting marks/finish in areas, wheels

Didn't like the view from the bars to the yoke, its crying out for some better finished bits.

Didn't like front mudguard, felt too flimsy.

I'm going back later in the week to ride it again to make sure.

Before I left, I was offered a new speed triple R to try.

Plus points....

Brakes are awesome, more feel than the mt10

Suspension felt plusher/more controlled/'nicer'

General finish was better than the mt10

I loikes the machined parts

Its great to just look at

Gearbox felt as nice as the yams

It was knee down in 5 miles fun.

I could thrash it across roads on the common, so useable power and gearing?

Negative points

New price.... however I reckon it'd only be 1k more than the mt10....

needs another 10bhp, would a decat and map fix that?

So, I'm going back again to have a blast on the mt10 with a few more miles under its belt.....

Good write up.

You've tested the two bikes that topped my list late last year. I was very excited about the MT10 until I saw it in the flesh. The rad reservoir, location, shape and cover is just straight off R1 where it would sit in the fairing fold, the finish on the wheels was bad, the clutch cables just 'hang' near the pipes.

I appreciate they are £10k, but my blade was £10k new last year and is is exceptionally finished. The Triumph is a cut above, but you don't have the outright performance.

Regarding improving it - losing the tail and twin pipes loses about 9kg - more if you ditch the cat. That's about 3% wet weight including rider and it's high weight. Remap gains a similar percentage, so you get your 6% uptick overall. The non-R comes in at similar money to MT10.

If you can live with the budget finish, no paint on front mudguard and poor details of the MT10, I think it's clearly the better bike, but if you want a great characterful bike that you smile when you open the garage on, the Speed Triple gets it.

I'm still keen to ride an MT10 as I love the concept and if it's particularly awesome I think you can throw some money at it to fix the details. Substitute carbon for the swathes of car bumper material plastic would be a good start.

The triumph was lovely to ride, really good fun. Just felt a little gutless after the mt10.

I'm going to ride a s1000r this week......

18 months old, <5000 miles, cruise, sport spec with DDC etc, alarm, heated grips, 24months bmw warranty, tank bag thing, 8750.....

It makes it the 'sensible' choice maybe as even in a years time it'll be worth 8k or more?

Nice to meet you today,I didn't realise you were on here!!!
I was chatting to you before you rode the MT, did you find it comfy enough to do a decent trip round Europe on one?
The speed triple, If you get arrow full system low boy adds some more horses and arrow give the dealers the map to do the fuelling when it's fitted. It sounds awesome as well
Small world! Hello again smile

I found it very easy to tour on, the screen thing is amazing, sat on the m5 at 'motorway' speeds, no buffeting or wind roar.

The triumph is just too much cash for me ATM, especially as it needs another 1000 quid worth of exhaust/mapping. I've not ruled it out, their coming back to me with a price for the demo.

Chris at Bridge was lovely to deal with though, totally none pushy. I do like the free 'lifetime' warranty they do.

Small world indeed wink
To be honest they're all lovely bikes, I suppose it's what you find the most comfy to ride, I'd happily have anyone in my garage!, do love the cross plane though!

Its got a strange vibration to it at lower revs and certain throttle openings that you don't normally get with a IL4, not in a bad way though.

I've had my S1000R just over a year. It's a great bike. Apart from the crap mirrors and BMW parts prices (£170 for front pads) it is a bloody good package. Even standard exhaust sounds good and power/handling much more than I can exploit on the road.

I rode the Tuono last year. Lovely bike but a lot more money.

Mt10 sounds like a lot of bike for the money. Not sold on the looks though.

Don't think you can make a bad choice with the bikes you are looking at.

Can I ask where you managed to get a new blade for 10k my nearest Honda dealership is selling them for £13k I would be interested if my back can deal with it lol.

I am also interested in the mt10 and have a test ride booked at the weekend.

Well I think I'm going to get a barely used 2016 speed triple r.

10k will get me one with a quick shifter and 500miles.

If you're telling me the 2016 is a big improvement over mine (2011-2015) you've made a sound choice. Save for the gearbox which I've learned to operate/workaround the irritations I love mine. smile
I'll have to try the new one but things like that could also be dangerous for my wallet smile
Probably glad as stonking performance wise as the MT10 is it still needs some work to sort it out to suit me - and it most def needs a screen. The demo bike I took out and exercised didn't have one.. it was very noticeable lol

you only have to look to see the quality improvement, from the switchgear to the general finish.

I did, great bike but it just does nothing for me. its like a white appliance if that makes sense?

An awesome spec washing machine, but still a washing machine.

I've just ordered a new Speed Triple R in graphite. Not quite sure when it's coming but it is due sometime before the end of the month.

I can't wait...

No, it wasn't too good, I just wouldn't sit looking at it in the garage, it had nothing 'interesting' about it.

Strangely I don't sit looking at mine either. I find it's much better to ride it. I'd also say they aren't really refined either. Ride the thing hard in dynamic or dynamic pro and it's a proper handful.

I'm also having this same set of problems at the moment, about to buy one of the above, I've only tried the superduke 1290 and the S1000R, not any of the others. I am fairly certain i'm going to go for the S1000R because of all of the above, it's very exciting to ride, I agree it's not the most beautiful washin... motorbike, but it's bloody exciting to ride.

Got to take the MT10, Speed triple r, 1290 SDR, and also the new tiger sport out today
The MT has a brilliant engine , absolutely ballistic it has power everywhere from no revs
I did find the suspension very hard, fine on smooth roads but not good on broken surfaces, although it was just a short test and on stty roads
The sdr was lovely the engine is a proper weapon but it's too expensive compared to the yam
The speed triple is lovely! Very well put together, some lovely finishes on it, again I think the suspension is too hard on the r version for the road.
The big surprise WA the tiger sport
As quick as the speed ( for me anyway) the suspension was very planted and you could really hustle it, pop it in sport mode and it's a weapon , OK it doesn't have the power of the MT and ktm but on sttier roads it's quicker in my hands
Loved them all
Oh, decisions!!!
