Leaving a bike sat with no shock
Discussion
Make a "shock" from a lump of wood with two holes in it if it bothers you, would make it easier to roll around too.
As long as it's not causing the suspension to exceed normal travel in a way that can stretch/bend/squash a component that wouldn't normally be subjected to such, it should be fine.

My sides are splitting with all these puns...
The rear end felt loose/wobbly towards the end of last week so I checked a load of things, put air in the tyres etc. Wasn't until this Monday evening it felt really dangerous and unpredictable and the crack was found under a thick layer of grime. Serves me right for not washing the bike more often or I'd have spotted it sooner I guess.

Might be a stupid question but am I okay to leave the bike sat until I can source the part? Everything seems fine it's just a little disconcerting.
Yes it's a stupid question. What next, "Leaving a tyre sat with no wheel"? I'm fully shiite at a lot of this stuff so even taking the shock off (which I know is now pretty damn easy) was cause for celebration.
Update on the WP for anyone interested - they don't seem to have any parts available for this model at all, some bullst about dropping a load of back-stock in the move from Holland to Austria. So I've bought an OEM shock off eBay for peanuts while I look into either having a new bracket fabricated or having this one welded up.
OP the fact the mounting bracket failed is quite worrying. Do WP have any comment on that at all?
Rather than mounting brakets I had two showa OE Blackbird rear shocks themselves fail on a 2006 end line model in the time I owned the bike (7.5 years). I just sourced 2 OE replacements off internet/ebay.
The first failure of the factory shock it completely p*ssed its oil contents out everwhere after failure and the actual shock separated into two unjoined pieces! The second failed 6months after fitted and just lost its oil slowly over time not quite as dramatically but ultimately failed.
It was very bouncy and undamped on both occasions.
Anyway fitted a second replacement off ebay which did last and I've now traded the bike.
I am wondering if the 6mm rear shock shim might have been the cause, basically it raised the overall ride heigh of the rear around 25mm to really improve handling at the cost of a little stability at proper autobahn levels of high speed.

I haven't approached them with that line yet but have thought about it, a brand new WP shock to say sorry because we almost killed you would be lovely . The main problem is I have no documentation for the shock at all and no idea when it was fitted by the previous owner.
My thinking is that it was over tightened and that's why it's gone ping? Or maybe it's just crap but I was under the impression WP made pretty good st.
