I'm really struggling seeing the logic in this thread.

I've fitted winter tyres to my car and they're brilliant when it's cold and st when it's above 10 degrees. The tyres being discussed originally are like Pilot Cup tyres and designed for summer use. No wonder they don't work.

In terms of the rest of it then most tyres are way beyond our capability and stressing over make / model / compound is a bit OTT and probably made up as well.

riding at this time of year is st, driving is equally slippy and rubbish. It's not the tyres it's the cold temps, the lack of rain and the build up of morning dew and slime on the roads.
Lame post is lame.

Tyres and personal preference make a massive difference on a bike. In a car sliding around is no big deal on a bike feel is everything. Even if a tyre grips ok if it feels sketchy it's not nice. I had a rosso 2 which I hated but lots of other people seem ok with. If you don't have confidence in a tyre in a car it's not really a big deal but on a bike it ruins it completely.

Well, having taken on board the feedback, I had PR4s installed on Friday.

For me, its totally transformed the bike already, despite still going through the initial running in phase. Already I have more sense of feel, and particularly confidence in the front end.

I hear what others are saying that all bar a few track/summer focussed tyres can perform in cold/damp conditions, and that the DCRs were probably fine, its just clear that there were not for me.

Very happy boy, and an early chrimbo present to boot! biggrin

Nice one - will be interesting to hear what you think when it warms up again... I bought a set of these to replace some Angels for my hacker but have not had a chance to try them out yet... The hacker's in a million and one pieces becoming not so much a hacker tongue out

DRCs are a good wet weather track tyre. Did a soaking wet Silverstone TD on DRCs and they were superb. Still my favourite all round fast road tyre, preferable to SuperCorsas (SP or SC1/2) because SCs never get enough heat in them on UK roads to work properly. DRCs do, however, and they work brilliantly.

M7RRs are good, but have a rounder carcass - similar to how Dunlops are shaped. The Rosso3 is inferior to the M7RR.
Did similar on my GSXR1000 at Silverstone in the wet. Wasn't a fan, but then I was used to how good the pilot roads are. Would be interested to see how the Rosso 3/M7RR are. Next tyre to try will be an M7RR.

Not really one for tyre pics but being the poster above has. Mine from last year on a Honda Hornet tearing round Brands Indy mid summer.

Also did a day where it was so wet it got rained off on a "road bike" day. No one passed me all day till two people put wets on which they weren't supposed to. Once they had got a feel for the wets, I kept within one and the other left me for dust. Wets are mega!

Going off subject but yes wets on track really are mega. I did Snett mid summer in pouring ran. Knee down and quick times given the bike I was on. You could literally do a stoppie in the wet once you got the initial bite from the lever

Above posts good to read as well. Think my money will be on M7RR's though once I've killed my supercorsa SP's

I got to use them for the first time back at Cadwell in March for a double header. Literally couldn't believe how much more feel and confidence it gave. They are as good as everyone says. Even when drying they inspired confidence (including chucking in a Metzeler roadtec 01 rear sports touring tyre).

PR4s or road/modern wet weather-focused tyres will always outperform a track/fast road tyre like the DRC - on a wet track. Another thing to consider is that the DRC is now a relatively old tyre compared to M7RR/Rosso3/etc, and the compound does not offer as much chemical grip.

I have written before in the past my experiences with both the M7RR and DRC. They offer similar levels of outright performance, but with different characteristic upsides. The M7RR feels a 'safer' tyre (rounder carcass) and offers more chemical grip in wet/damp weather. The DRC offers slightly more feedback, is more responsive, and offers slightly higher dry weather grip. However, both are very comparable and are, imho, the 2 best fast road tyres on the market today that can also do the occasional trackday.

I recently ran a set of Rosso3s on my 1098R, and they are down to the wear bars after 2k+ miles. They were OK, but definitely lacked feel and grip compared to the M7RR or DRC. In turn, they did not appear to offer significantly better mileage upside for the reduction in feel/grip. Depending on ones' priorities and bike being used on, they are still an excellent tyre for all round road use.
