I went round to a friend's house last summer for a BBQ. she lives near Rykas cafe, so there are always masses of bikes near by.

The intrusion of all the screaming bike's made me embarrassed to ride one.

Excessively loud pipes are selfish and bad for biking as it'll only encourage more legislation.

My definition of a tit is overtaking in 30mph villages at 50mph in 1st gear with a slash cut racefit pipe on. Doing 160mph on Dual Carriageways etc.

I have a lot of people in the group i ride with who do the aforementioned. However when we get to a windy back road NSL in Wales I have to wait for them....
I wouldn't argue with your definition. But I bet many on here would say your NSL riding was tit like. I wouldn't - you seem to have a similar approach to mine (apart from I don't ride in a group anymore, I do my own thing at my own pace) .... But someone will pop up and say it's antisocial to ride quickly on any public road, and windy ones are the most dangerous.

I guess the question is what bike is it on?

I've never heard an aftermarket exhaust without baffles that isn't obnoxious.

My GSX-R600 has been measured over 100db on it's standard exhaust with baffles!
My 1100cc vee four with decat and AR can with baffle blew 98/99 at 5500rpm and that's ' one of those baked bean can' pipes

My gsxr with lextek full size sports exhaust - not sure on the length they state but it's track friendly normally would blow 102-104 depending on what track and if the bike was on its period and being noisier than normal

Go figure?!
Translation please, Birky.
Apologies there are car people on here too

My road bike is an Aprilia with a big (for a bike) engine and a exhaust that's known to be very loud however when I was at Snetterton last month on track it blew on the very tight noise test a lower reading than my higher revving track only suzuki 750 despite the 750 having a dedicated much longer track pipe

A mixture of the 750 needing to rev higher on both the noise test and to get into the power plus my Aprilia having a exhaust valve that keeps the noise down at lower throttle opening I think help all this... If that all makes sense

If you can get past a noise test at Snetterton (102db) with their noise tester, you have a quiet bike hehe I'm still amazed I got my 690smcr with a baffle past him smile

yeh, yesterday I got one overtaking me in a 20 zone doing at least 50mph. I mean, I was doing 20, the biker was easily doubling my speed and then some. In the daytime. In a heavily residential area. With a lot of pedestrians and other stuff going on.
Yet you can bet they've got massive chicken strips and you'll catch them up in no time at all once in NSL as they'll be stting their pants creeping along at 43mph around a wide open bend.

This is a separate issue and a very valid one. The Exeter-Crediton A377, for example, has now been messed with to the point where all the clear places to overtake with good sightlines have been given double whites and/or 40 limits. Then they give the poor motorist broken lines in all the most dangerous spots where it is actually totally impossible to see what's coming. So the result is if a law-abiding motorist wants to pass a tractor they must put themselves at great risk.
It's bloody awful that bit of road. I got caught out there as I hadn't ridden along in a good while and went to overtake some slow-moving traffic along a nice long, clear-sighted straight heading into Half Moon...which is now a 40mph limit

It's OK once you get past Crediton for the most part.
Yeah, I get the feeling the stretch into Exeter has been dumbed down so badly by the combined efforts of Newton St Cyres community speedwatch, teenagers killing themselves and friends by losing it on the bends near Cowley Bridge and the overall poor driving habits of commuters meaning the road has become a de facto 40 zone even in the places where NSL is allowed.
