I used to be really vociferous about bikes, in particular, overtaking on double whites.

But then I saw a number of my favourite roads get double whites in places where they'd had a dashed line and places where I always planned overtakes.

I'm now of the opinion that many double whites are advisory if you're on 2 wheels - yes, I know it's wrong and I know it's illegal, but applying double whites because some bikers and car drivers can't make safe decisions can make riding incredibly frustrating if you blindly follow the rules.
This is a separate issue and a very valid one. The Exeter-Crediton A377, for example, has now been messed with to the point where all the clear places to overtake with good sightlines have been given double whites and/or 40 limits. Then they give the poor motorist broken lines in all the most dangerous spots where it is actually totally impossible to see what's coming. So the result is if a law-abiding motorist wants to pass a tractor they must put themselves at great risk.

From the noise perspective I like the sound of noisy bikes or cars if they are the right kind of noises. It's the slow as hell stheaps making loads of noise that are just pointless, something that sounds like it belongs on a non-UK racetrack being given a spanking is right up my street. Literally. The road outside my house is a 60 (A10). I congratulate anybody that sticks their fingers up at that, join the club.

On a separate note my feeling is that the continuous anti-speed brainwashing that the State churn out has resulted in a general resentment from the masses as regards anything they perceive as non-conforming behaviour.
In essence your average member of the public is now so heavily manipulated and reinforced by the crap they are fed that they now resent anybody that doesn't tow the line and they feel empowered to vent their frustrations as a result of this perceived anti-social behaviour, by either actively attempting to prevent it (often resulting in behaviour by themselves far more dangerous than that they are trying to prevent) or by preaching from the moral high groung they now feel they hold.

(Chartered accountants, eh, what are they like?)
Why do people say this, is it meant to be derogatory? I neither own a Harley nor am I an accountant but I don't get it.
Not derogatory, just referencing one of the motoring cultural stereotypes - similar to saying MGB drivers are old and have a beard, or Audi drivers are...well...you know...

Even the HD boys talk about it

And how does a noisy exhaust affect out densely populated Island, Tractor Boy?

Far more damage caused by mud on road, unlit farm trailers. How about all the uninsured and untaxed farm vehicles driven by unlicensed drivers during harvest season?

OP is moaning about wheelies, (what's the harm?), and speeding at 50mph which is fair enough to moan about. But after market exhausts hurt pretty much no one, so I'm keeping mine.

They affect everyone because they are bloody noisy. Very often when speed limits are reduced due to 'residents wishes' it turns out that it's noise the residents are objecting to not speed.

Can you not see that the only reason the authorities turn a blind eye to noisy exhausts is because they see them as an effective way of turning public opinion against bikes?

Exhaust noise effects our densely populated island because, surprise, surfkingprise, there are a lot of people to disturb while you're revving the bks off your bike that everyone in a 2 mile radius can hear. If you want to make a lot of noise, why not move to Montana where you'll only disturb a hermit? Music venues and pubs and clubs have to adhere to rules and regulations about noise so they don't disturb their neighbours, so do airports, so quite why some, certainly not all, bike riders think that its acceptable to ride like bellends while bursting the ear drums of everyone within half a miles is beyond me. Utter retards.

Most people that go to football matches just want to go to see the game, but a small minority are morons, thus in the eyes of many all football supporters arr morons.

If you want lower speed limits and more heavy handed policing, keep riding like a knob.

For the record, my tractor is serviced on time, every time by the main dealer and is spotlessly clean, it's also driven in a manner than doesn't draw attention to me, it, my employer or the industry, and even though it has a 6.6 litre engine a very whiney transmission and tyres that roar, still is quieter than most of the weekend warrior types that ride past my house.

I was wondering when we were due the annual "bikers are knobs" thread. Spring must have sprung later this year.
At least we are only tarred as knobs until our bikes go away for the winter (soft ste I know) whereas knobs driving cars do it all year round.

Absolutely.

Personally I don't mind a loud exhaust, but I'm well aware that very few people share my taste. And that forcing them to listen to 100db of Ducati twin makes me seem like a monumental bell-end. So I choose to keep things a bit quieter.

But that's just me.

This is what i don't get. you think i said all bikers are knobs, when they clearly aren't. i said knob bikers are knobs, but it seems the good bikers get het up by this.

i don't get upset when people say chav drivers are knobs, or such like.

if you ride a bike, don't do wheelies in built up areas, don't overtake round a blind bend on double whites and roar through a sedate village at 50mph in 1st then i don't have a problem as do the vast majority of road users.

Sitting in the garden on a summers evening, what better than to hear someone giving their machine some stick through the gears (whether it be bike or car). It's the sound of someone having fun, not sitting at home moaning about some noise which in the grand scheme of things makes no difference to your every day life.

I live on the coast and quite often on a summers evening you will hear a P1 powerboat or similar go past full chat, a monotone drone which is much worse than a bike or car but it still sounds great as someone out there is enjoying themselves.

Ageed Rubin, but my patch acts like a magnet for bikers. It is always a hot topic in the local press, down the pub, on street corners and over the hedge.

You're lucky you dont live in Canvey, Essex. This poor man has to live in his attic due to such hooligan bikers in the Essex area riding the roads like a GP track on a Saturday night between 10pm and 1am. It upset me so much I decided to stop at 12.30 that night...
