The only problem I can think of is too high a pressure forcing petrol past the float needles. Does the XJ have a fuel pressure regulator?Maybe try a pump from a carburettor car with a similar power output, or one that would be suitable for a bike-engined kit car?
If you think about it, if the bike did, say, 20 to the gallon at 100mph, that's only 5 gallons / <25 litres per hour. A Facet solid state 12 gallons per hour/3 psi pump is about £40. A cheapie low pressure eBay inline pump is about £15.

Carb or EFI R6?I'm sure you know this anyway, but wire it through a fuse and a relay that's switched by the ignition, and check that the kill switch turns the pump off.
Bugger, the electric one doesn't seem to work, and one of the screws on the clamp is mullered, and that's blocking the screws to open it up and check if there's anything furred up inside.
However using a syringe to force fuel in (instead of gravity feed from the tank) to the existing pump/filter combo had the bike start first time, which dies suggest to me that the pump is the problem..
Presumably a vacuum fuel pump works by pressure pulses rather than a constant suction so it's quite hard to test it? Cranking the engine with my finger over the fuel pipe I'm feeling a couple of pulses and then not a lot.

Other than top box/panniers, how do people store their helmets when off the bike?
I'm talking about at the end of a journey when your going into a shop/destination, maybe for an hour or 2 at max. I'm thinking a cable lock through the rear set and around the chin bar but wanted other recommendations. Ta

I have an NC750X so it has storage in the frunk to take a lid. Either on my old bike or when the frunk is already full I personally prefer to carry it with me. This is especially true as on my old bike i had my top box broken into and contents nicked (rukka gloves in there but thankfully not my lid). I keep an ikea packable backpack on the bike as unfolded it's massive and just dump it in there with plenty space to spare. I have a Dainese rucksack that expands to also carry a helmet
I have a D ring lock strap under the seat, which will lock 2 helmets to the fork leg or frame. Fine in good weather for a few hours, otherwise have a oxford helmet bag too to cover helmets up before locking to bike.

Having had 7 months to ride solo and gain a tiny bit of experience, where do people look for riding groups/buddies?
Sadly old man broke his hip and hasn't got back on a bike since, and the 3 mates I know with a licence all ride silly machines (1198, R1, blade) and only really do track days. I'm looking to learn from others and not be a billy no mates!

Personally I found a local group on FB and occasionally I'll pop out with them but not too often as they're all track gods. Other than that it's just people you know, my son is keen but on a 125 so we'll have a bimble quite often too.

I've a leak of oil on my 675 coming from behind my alternator casing. Initially I thought it was this but it appears to be the crankcase bolt. How can I stop this?
I've nipped it up without forcing as I don't want to fk the threads but still it leaks. Can I simply remove this and add a copper washer or use some sort of gasket sealant on the face. Or is it that the threads are stripped and ill need got get it resized and new bolt?
