I have a 4cyl bike on carbs, Do i have 4 carbs?
2nd question, when on choke on the side stand it revs high, when you pick it up so its level the revs drop, normal or do i need the carbs balanced(if i have more than one) XJ600.
Ebay picture says it has 4 carb /throttle bodies. Sounds like they could do with being adjusted or you could use the centre stand 2nd question, when on choke on the side stand it revs high, when you pick it up so its level the revs drop, normal or do i need the carbs balanced(if i have more than one) XJ600.
Sounds more like you need the throttle cables adjusting as picking it up will move the bars, do the revs rise and fall when you turn the bars left to right.
Carb balancing means syncing the carbs to each other, whether the bike is on the stand or not makes no difference.
Edited to add spark plugs should not be that tight, you should be able to seat them with your fingers then give them half a turn with a wrench, if its an old bike there could well be ste and dirt buildup on the threads.

Added to the list, cheersCarb balancing means syncing the carbs to each other, whether the bike is on the stand or not makes no difference.

Helmet fitment question. I have two helmets, one HJC and one AGV, both at the lower end of the range. The AGV has a snug fit which leaves marks on my head after riding (but not to the point that I ever get a headache), but even so in the wind blast at higher speeds seems to push back into my chin, which I find a bit worrying / irritating.
The HJC doesn't seem to do this. Is this a fitment thing? Does it just mean this shape doesn't suit my head? Or does this happen to other people?
Cheers
Rob

My Nolan does this. First ever helmet and leaves imprints on my forehead after 30 mins and a headache after 1 hour. Always thought the headache was due to dehydration/squinting but it's this. One of those things you find out AFTER buying. Not sure if there is a way to 'spot reduce' right spots? The HJC doesn't seem to do this. Is this a fitment thing? Genuine question, how come the drive chain and sprockets stretch, get worn and need replacing, but (most) timing chains (cars and bikes) are good for 200k+ miles?
Timing chains run in filtered oil.Drive chains and sprockets run in a grinding paste composed of road dirt and salty water.
ETA: there's not much load on a timing chain either, compared to a bike's drive chain.
Just got a bike back on the road after 8 years sitting idle. Changed the oil & filter, put new stuff in and within a couple of minutes of it running it's looking jet black in the sight glass.
My thoughts were that it's some of the old stuff that didnt come out contaminating it.
My plan was to leave it in for 100 miles and change it all again. Sensible?

Sounds likely, you would probably need to change the oil a couple of times if it bothers you. My thoughts were that it's some of the old stuff that didnt come out contaminating it.

You may find that more running clears it a bit as the new filter removes contamination.
