Looking at the roof of the car that hit him - 206cc, its a wonder he survived at all, the amount of damage to the windscreen frame which must be one of the strongest parts of the 206, hopefully if he survived that then he can survive what comes next.

I have never seen Nicky race live and only watched on the TV. Always admired his style, attitude, enthusiasm and ever-present smile. In an age where we are bombarded by bad news daily, to the point where we become hardened to other peoples misfortune, I have found this has genuinely affected me.

Best wishes and keep fighting.

I hate to say this but there's a distinctly grizzly echo of Schumacher about it all. It's a grim thing to happen to anyone but just seems worse when it happens to someone who has been crowned as a champion.

Yes, the news is very disappointing as it comes in. I just really hope for the best and does not follow the route we have seen in the last 2 or 3 years such as with F1 etc who we have all read about.

Very low this morning.

Aint it just - all to get you on their site just go get them further up google search

That aside I hope the brain damage report is not as bad as its been made out and he is able to make a recovery
I think we're all fearing the worst, but I can't stand these sort of websites jumping the gun to get advert clicks. I lost a mate last year in a race and some of the disgusting videos plonked on YouTube claiming to have the crash were bang out of order. It wasn't on film and didn't need the tts to pretend it was just to pander to the gore lovers.

Really gutted about this. Always been a Hayden fan and his IG feed is just really humble, very family orientated and often shouting out to other athletes. I felt it had a lot to offer SBK too. Hoping for some good news.

Been a weird 3 weeks with the loss of a couple family members (not immediate ones, mind you) Robert Miles, Chris Cornell and this happening to Nicky. Celebrities they may be but it's rare that there is a run of bad things that happen to people important to me personally. Maybe I'm due one.

Another that's gutted about this. He seemed to be on the side of manufacturers etc. but still have a personality.

Been a bit of a crap time for cycling at the moment, with this, Froome getting knocked off, and Scarpa getting killed recently. I hope he pulls through, however the chances would seem remote.

He didn't give up in Valencia 2006 when everyone thought all was lost. Can't believe he's going to give up on this easily.

Not trying to be an arse or anything but the only reliable source at the moment is his team. Ignore everything else.
