I think my neighbour is dodgy

Glad I stayed out of this one
By all means get plod involved, but home detective work usually comes to nothing & therefore is not a good use of that precious commodity, time. MID database for example, apparently can take up to 2 weeks to update. At least this is what I was given to believe when I recently picked up a new car; the dealer told me to carry my insurance certificate & receipt of VED payment for at least a couple of weeks - just in case....

The house opposite me either sells drugs or is a brothel, maybe both. Either way there's very odd. Old people as well.
But they don't make any noise so crack on. No point worrying, can't do f all.
"Crack" on . If they're not causing problems, those are some well behaved druggies! But they don't make any noise so crack on. No point worrying, can't do f all.
Frankly, theft (which is what is likely going on in OP's case) strikes me as much more insidious than drugs - especially if it's cannabis. I hate tobacco smoke, it reeks to high heaven (maybe because a parent quit smoking). Hash smoke, on the other hand, doesn't bother me. Except I feel a bit odd after being exposed to it. (No, I don't do drugs, but I went cash machine in the village and the car next to it had weed smoke pouring out of the open windows).
I was wheeling my Mx bike out of my van one night at about 1am, as I'd just driven miles and just got back when low and behold the rozzers came past, scream he'd to a halt and asked who's bike it was, where I'd been etc etc.
They had a call from someone passing in there car, I was actually well happy that they had bothered with to come and have a butchers.
So yeah Op, crack on, I wish more people actually gave a st about things being knicked that we work hard for to pay!

I guess when your bike gets nicked you'll be glad someone like the OP wasn't around?
yourself....It will probably be miles away by then, claimed on insurance & logged by some PCSO with a crime number. The scrotes want my bike? They'll get it whatever I do. Been lucky so far. Assuming the OP's neighbours really are dodgy, what can the OP actually really do about it? Curtain twitching? Calling plod who probably have 'more important' stuff to deal with? Set up a vigilante squad??
Its a bit like neighbourhood watch schemes - do the scrote thieves take any notice whatsoever?
The only answer I can see is upping tax to put humongous quantities of plod on the street to deal with bike theft. Not holding my breath....
If I get up from this computer. Take 2 steps to my right. I can look out the window and see the bike tent. It's not like I staked the place out for a week under a camo net with night vision goggles.
If you are the legal owner of a bike and can prove it easily, why would it take 2 months to get back?
He is strangely tragic
And I have to say public weed use seems increasingly common. Based purely on the amount you smell out and about. And I'm not sure I approve of that. If they just sat inside with the windows closed. Rock on, but driving seems especially stupid
I presume if someone steals your number plate but not your bike that'll be fine though. After all a poster on this thread kinda hinted it was a st load of bother to sort out.

OP, the only thing you have done wrong is dial 101/ use the website, you may if your lucky get a PC pitch up sometime in the next 28 days if you don't keep getting bumped in all probability you will get a PCSO and good luck with that.
Of course if you happened to suspect somebody of carrying a firearm or dealing in various chemicals you might find the response to be slightly swifter by a proactive team from your local police force.
I've got a reference number from the website. I guess if I went into the local station with it, it could be cross referenced? Or maybe if I phoned 101 and waited?Of course if you happened to suspect somebody of carrying a firearm or dealing in various chemicals you might find the response to be slightly swifter by a proactive team from your local police force.

It was a busybody like the OP who was responsible for my very immaculate Ducati Supersport being removed from my garage by the police and left to rot in an open compound for 2 months after they cut a massive hole in my garage door.
The garage is rented, so I'm not sure if the landlord managed to get the door replaced by the police or his own insurance - but they absolutely refused to take any responsibility for the damage caused to my bike.
Clearly this never happened exactly how you typedThe garage is rented, so I'm not sure if the landlord managed to get the door replaced by the police or his own insurance - but they absolutely refused to take any responsibility for the damage caused to my bike.

Maybe next time you're around the local police station just pop in and see what they have to say about it. That's all you can do really.
Due to the unique way the Met is funded my actual local station is not open everyday. The big one (not a million miles away from AshleyMan if his dashcams are anything to go by) well I went there (for something else unrelated) a while back and it took 30 mins to even get seen.1 person who tbh wasn't a Police, just some admin woman who knew very little!Rawwr said:

Its funny, I've never smoked. But I can tolerate Fag smoke more than Cannabis. And I have to say public weed use seems increasingly common. Based purely on the amount you smell out and about. Post up your address please that way everyone cans see where you live and if you have anything nice. I presume if someone steals your number plate but not your bike that'll be fine though. After all a poster on this thread kinda hinted it was a st load of bother to sort out.
I found my local one, 'the big one' as you mentioned to be pretty good. They took my report quite seriously and they got a good result out of it one afternoon.
My dashcam provided much evidence, and I enjoyed the free parking right outside my house at any time of day for a couple months without getting parking tickets.
If you do decide to go, plan to arrive later on, like 8.30 - 9PM. It'll be empty and you won't have to wait. Take your reference number with you but don't expect to speak to anyone directly involved, just expect for them to take notes, some of your contact details and then you'll get a phone call within a couple days.
In my case, I reported I had evidence, someone (plain clothes) came to my home and we went from there. All contact was then done via email or phone calls directly with the case officer. Every now and again he would pop round, have a look at the property and a cup of tea at mine whilst he checked any evidence and then he'd go back to update his reports.

I think the delays were caused due to the police suspecting the garage owner or tenant was involved in illegal bike trades, as the busybody had seen 3 different bikes and 2 different cars being taken into and out of the garage - in addition to me not being a known local.
Was a bloody nightmare.
ETA: The crowning glory in the whole sorry tale was a police officer gleefully telling me my stolen Ducati had been recovered from a lockup where they believed a thief was storing stolen bikes!

I'd be the same here. In all my years doing it I must've seen or heard 50+ mx bikes nicked and less than 5 recovered They had a call from someone passing in there car, I was actually well happy that they had bothered with to come and have a butchers.

I might miss doing the sport but I don't miss that part of it
Mini update.
The bike has gone. I just saw someone I didn't recognise (not my neighbour) riding it away the other day (still on the same 55 plate) I got a much better look at it this time. I was right about the plate but not the engine capacity. It was a Yamaha TDM 900. Identical to this one.
Of course the plate is registered to a Honda Shadow VT600 like this
My neighbour still has his Chinese bike, I've seen him riding it about since the other Yam went. Whilst I've not been around 24.7 this last week, I haven't seen anything to suggest the Police have taken any interest at all. And now, its too late
With hindsight was the KTM also stolen? Who knows. I do wonder if there'll be other bikes in the future that turn up. But this was probably the easiest slam dunk Id have thought.
I'm really disappointed by the whole situation tbh.

I love how whenever someone posts about a stolen bike people are up in arms about the thieving scum, but as soon as someone thinks they might have seen a stolen bike people have a go at him.
As a TDM owner, is have to say they're not generally considered that attractive to thieves, I only know of one stolen one from several hundred members of the owners club in the last 10 years or so. if you want to pm me the details I can check on the owners forum if anyone's heard of it being stolen or seen it for sale.

You've taken the advice of a car dealer about something upon which he is highly unlikely to be qualified to comment and you expect to be taken even slightly seriously? (FWIW, I'm sure it COULD take that long, but how often does it?)By all means get plod involved, but home detective work usually comes to nothing & therefore is not a good use of that precious commodity, time. OP: have a bit more courage of your convictions and hang on the line.
