A great example of this is the ban on all legal highs last year, specifically nitrous oxide. I watched an enlightening video on Vice about how various "dealers" have now setup catering businesses that provide 24 hour home delivery. No special license required and customers merely have to say "I'm using it for cooking".
Well, that's not true. It's a class B substance now along with all the other worthless NPS lot.

This situation with bike thefts needs tackled, quickly. It's descended into gangs using acid to commit theft, and now it's in the national focus. The law needs to be changed to provide legal protection to police to allow them to pursue the thiefs. The increased bureacracy around stop search needs to be rolled back and cops need to be pulled out of useless neighbourhood teams and put back on the frontline. Maybe then, the tide can be turned on these thugs.

Well here we go. Mum of a moped thief collared by Tom Hardy claims her sone has 'mental problems' and needs 'help'.

Does this work if you get caught speeding?

'Why were you doing 105 mph?'
'i had a bad upbringing and am autistic.'
'in that case we're sorry to have upset you with his awful arrest trauma and here's some DLA and a social worker.'

It's been said before but I think it's worth saying again as, to me at least, it is the only half sensible suggestion that could be implemented without so much paperwork that would drown it, and at least will have half of the (law abiding) public behind it - fail to stop when requested and you waive all your rights. If you die in a pursuit, that's your own fault. Give the police the power they need to tackle this head on and it will at very least deter some of the scrotes from getting involved in the first place.

The judicial system is similarly fked but I'm not sure how that can be fixed. Agree though that something needs to be done there too otherwise it would be all to no end.

Another MP was on the radio earlier suggesting licensing acids.
Next thing will be 5 year mandatory sentence for possessing acid, whilst the perps of the bike related crimes get a few weeks suspended sentence or community service.

Be careful what you wish for regarding crime perpetrated from bikes as they'll inevitably end up clamping down further on bikes which will only have any affect on those of us who are registered, taxed, insured and licensed, such is the lack of common sense of the lawmakers...

Might I suggest that the law for dealing with criminals like this be upgraded, such as lopping their hands off and making them walk the plank in the channel!

I watched an interview with that fking idiot Dianne Abort this morning. She seems to the think the answer to this issue is allowing only licensed tradesmen to be able to buy the products being used in these latest incidents.

So you stupid fking bh, are you also going to ban fire extinguishers and angle grinders?

Does this woman never think before opening her st infested mouth? Dear Ms Abort, tackle this head on and give the police the power they need to regain control. Oh, I forgot, you lost the election therefore can't give the police anything

Indeed. The substance is the problem, not the lawless little st that's wielding said substance.

The world has gone fking mad.

@pilotpaul - thank you for your voice of reason.

As always, the politicians appear to judge others by their own insulated existences, within which they never seem to acknowledge that creating more rules and regulations to restrict those that have absolutely no respect for the existing rules and regulations is utterly pointless. All it succeeds in doing is to force the law-abiding citizens to have to jump through even more hoops to carry out actions they performed perfectly reasonably under the existing rules already, or in certain circumstances to actually prohibit those citizens from an activity altogether. Meanwhile the criminals stick their fingers up at the new rules much as they did to the old ones.

Gun laws spring to mind. Total fk-up.

Socialists believe in Big Government, lots of laws against everything, lots of enforcement, but lax penalties for scum they need to get votes from. The US is going through this at the moment, big gangs on dirt bikes in Philly/Jersey/Baltimore running wild, but no crackdown due to ethnicity issues.

Politicians - the only people who believe that the solution to criminals ignoring one law is the introduction of another law.

Everybody else - people who think "Oh, FFS! They are fking criminals. They will just ignore the new law as well.".

I had the misfortune to ride through Corby last Sunday. There were 2 young kids (10yrs or under) riding mini motorbikes up and down one of the roads entering the town and a group of 3 lads riding (unregistered) dirt bikes through the town centre, wheelying from the lights etc.

Nobody batted an eyelid, luckily I kept it below 30mph through the speed cameras...

Yes, but it not about doing something. That would be expensive.

It's about being seen to be doing something.

Absolutely - see speed safety cameras.

I always feel much safer when I hear that something has been done. smile

Cant see things improving any time soon. As I earlier said, why should a policeman risk their career or risk their own criminal prosecution by trying to catch a moped criminal. I sure as hell would not.

This also has nothing to do with any inadequately in existing laws. Even without using acid, moped criminals can already be jailed for a long time. Providing a copper is actually prepared to put their job on the line to catch them in the first place.

Would not bother me at all if that happened. OTOH if they did come off and end up eating their own acid when it spills on them and if they come off while being chased by a copper:

Then the copper can expect to be thoroughly investigated by the IPCC. This investigation may last for several years, even if nothing ultimately comes of it. The copper may face several years of job insecurity and threat of criminal prosecution.

The last moped thug to kill themselves while running from the police was in 2014. The police involved are still being criminally investigated.

This is why things will not get any better.

Currently two arrested. One bailed, the other remanded and charged with 15 offences up to GBH with intent. Due in court tomorrow. Hopefully they'll make an example of him due to the media coverage.
