The only thing I didn't like about my Tracer was the screen, £70 later thats fixed, the seat must depend on your arse, I find it much more comfortable than my FZ1. I did 280 miles on Saturday in Wales, 8 hours on the bike with a few stops, no problem. The guys on the S1000RR's, Panigale's were ready for bed
Which screen did you go for in the end?touringhornet said:

I know a couple of people who bought Tracers and got shot of them very quickly. Apparently they're not good if you carry a pillion much. A couple of others who only ever ride solo love them though.
I bought the Tracer specifically to carry a pillion, I pretty much only ride it with a pillion so I don't see why they didn't like it, she finds it very comfortable, and is even known to sleep whilst on the back! I was going to buy a MT10 but she didn't like that at all, small pillion seat and pegs to high.I think it was more the handling with the extra weight onboard rather than the pillion comfort. The suspension is relatively budget on them, nut sure how much they're improved with an aftermarket shock. Certainly worth a test ride with a pillion on board if anyone thinking of one and regularly carries a pillion.

With a pillion on I find it fine as soon as you get moving.I do 300+ mile days on mine while on 'tours', I find the seat can get uncomfy after around a 90 mins or so but the crowd I go with tend to stop every 30 mins or so for smoke/tea breaks so all good.
With a pillion the front will feel lighter than normal from take off and even with the TC on the front can lift and do a kangroo hops if your heavy handed.
The pillion seat is a comfy place to be though with a decent sized seat and good grab bars. With a top box on the bike the pillion could goto sleep.
I am 5.10 and 13.5 stone and on the last scotland trip I had to take a 5,10 16 stone man on the rear around glasgow looking a puncure repairkit for his pan and again had no probs at all.

I'm 13.5 stone as well and my wife is about 8.5 stone and we don't have any problems with the suspension. I also ride with Shad panniers and it's been fine at any speeds. Shadow R1 said:
Have any of you guys fitted an aftermarket exhaust yet ?
I'm looking though the options, but would take onboard any experiences others have had.
Yes, i had the titanium Akra on mine, with Cat and DB killer in and it sounded great. I have however removed it as i like the quieter life for my commutes (it does sound great for a standard bike i think!) - goodness, am i getting old!? Either way, mine is in the loft if anyone fancies it?!I'm looking though the options, but would take onboard any experiences others have had.

I took a deposit for my FZ1 on Saturday. Top of my list is the 900 Tracer. Out of interest is there anything you miss from the FZ going to the Tracer?

I looked at the other adventure bikes, S1000XR and Multistrada, but they are great bikes but not £5000 plus better and certainly no quicker in everyday riding on british roads. With the money I saved from not buying one of those two, I bought a nearly new MT07 with an Akra for fun on my own, it reminds be so much of my RD350LC from the early 80's, great little bike, again on our roads not much slower than a modern superbike if you work hard enough at it.

I can't say there is anything I miss, I loved the FZ1 and I thought it was a good all round bike, but after trying the Tracer I found it just bit "dated". The brakes were never that good, and the Tracers are certainly not the best, but I find them better than the FZ1. The handling is much better, the bike feels so much more nimble than the Fz1. The performance is similar but the triple just feels more exciting the way it delivers its power and torque. I bought the Tracer mainly to carry my new wife who loves to ride pillion and its certainly better at that.

Thanks for that. It's always good to know what bike someone has gone to with comparisons I looked at the other adventure bikes, S1000XR and Multistrada, but they are great bikes but not £5000 plus better and certainly no quicker in everyday riding on british roads.
